Position Purpose

Certified technologist to cover on-call, weekend coverage, weekday coverage and Holiday coverage for technologist on medical leave. Able to perform nuclear medicine procedures, quality control and venipuncture as needed by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of a school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • A baccalaureate degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology is desirable.
  • Must be registered by one of the following registries: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • A registry eligible individual is assigned a somewhat lower status pending certification. Employee has 90 days in which to become registered.
  • Must fulfill education requirements above.
  • Prior experience in a busy hospital setting is highly desirable.
  • Experience with SPECT is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Nuclear Cardiology is highly desirable.

What the Nuclear Med Technologist will do

Prepares diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals.

Administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients after explaining procedure and obtaining complete patient history.

Physically assists patients in assuming required imaging positions to ensure that complete diagnostic studies are obtained.

Calibrates and operates thyroid uptake systems, Geiger counters, dose calibrators and other departmental equipment.

Calibrates and operates computerized imaging systems, including SPECT, to image, process, and photograph patient studies.

Develops film and reviews them with Radiologist. Follows departmental safety policies, including infection control and radiation safety.

Requirements

Candidates must be graduates of a Nuclear Medicine Technology school and registered with ARRT or NMTCB. Experience in a busy hospital setting and proficiency with SPECT and Nuclear Cardiology are highly desirable.
