About the role

The counselor will consult with physicians regarding addiction's effects on health, assist in determining treatment for co-occurring disorders, and collaborate with nurses on physical health assessments and referrals. They will also provide ongoing support, counseling, and education to individuals, families, and team members regarding substance abuse disorders.

We are seeking an Certified Addiction Counselor to join our team in our Shelocta, PA location supporting Armstrong and Indiana County.

Earn $24.99 an hour + mileage reimbursement

Position Details

Consult with Psychiatrist and Primary Care Physicians on the effects of addiction on mental and physical health and assist in determining the appropriate course of treatment for individuals with co-occurring disorders.

Collaborate with the registered nurses in the assessment of an individual's physical health, making appropriate referrals to community physicians for further assessment and treatment, and in coordination of medical, psychiatric, and substance abuse treatment.

Provide ongoing support and counseling and education to team members, individuals, and family members to help them become more knowledgeable about substance abuse disorders. Submit written reports and oral testimony and presentation of opinion in commitment and other legal proceedings, as necessary.

Attending organizational staff meetings and treatment planning meetings as requested to assess patients and assist with staff training and education, as necessary.

Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) Teams are composed of professionals including psychiatrists, nurses, mental health professionals, substance abuse professionals, employment specialists, housing specialists, and a peer specialist, all of whom collaborate to provide complete services including therapy, medication management, and resource linkage to adult individuals with serious mental illness (SMI). Services are provided in the individual's home or the community and include at least three home visits a week. Will be required to utilize personal vehicles for client transportation and community-based work.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications

  • Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) Certification is required
  • 2 to 3 years of experience working with individuals with co-occurring substance abuse/mental health disorders required.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in human services/related field

Requirements

Candidates must possess a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) or Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CAADC) certification and have two to three years of experience working with individuals facing co-occurring substance abuse and mental health disorders. A Bachelor's or Master's degree in human services or a related field is also required.
