Job Description

Disability Resources, Inc., is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization that supports a community designed to enhance the lives of adults with intellectual disabilities. We are located in the great state of Texas and are currently seeking a relationship builder and difference maker as a Direct Support Professional. Disability Resources, Inc. provides industry-leading services to our residents such as; helping residents develop their life skills, providing required medical care, a variety of therapies, offering spiritual opportunities for growth, and encouraging healthy lifestyles.

We are growing and adding positions to our team! The job duties for the position of Direct Support Professional are listed below.

The Direct Support ICF Professional Weekend Day / Night is responsible for the routine and emergency care, treatment, and training for specified individuals with developmental disabilities in routine and crisis situations.

Responsibilities may include such duties as grooming, feeding, cooking, cleaning, observing, and reporting individuals’ conditions and behaviors.

The Direct Support ICF Professional Weekend Day Staff is required to accurately document individuals’ behavior(s) throughput the daily schedule, including response to home activities, home training, and unusual incidents.

Completion of work requires use of simple and/or routine duties, while decision-making is based on well-defined guidelines.

May perform other duties as assigned.

Works under minimum supervision with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Verify, administers and record medications and medical treatments and assure they are properly administered and recorded
  • Prepare and serve meals for up to 7 people in accordance with menu provided by dietician
  • Take Folks on shopping trips, occasional meals and church
  • Ensure Folks are observing proper personal hygiene and are dressed with appropriate clothing
  • Know each of the folks abilities, disabilities and interests
  • Provide behavior intervention to ensure the Folks are protected from harm or injury due to neglect, abuse, sexual incidents, or other behavioral conduct and properly record the incident and action taken
  • Conduct Emergency Evacuation drills
  • Ability to make decisions and uses good judgment when dealing with critical incidents
  • Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency
  • Demonstrate proper body mechanics, good posture, and proper lifting techniques
  • Ability to master basic techniques of individual care and training
  • Assure individual care techniques, treatment, therapy, and developmental programs of Folks are utilized
  • Other activities are assigned by Director of Residential Services and House Manager
  • Competencies
  • Attends work on a daily basis and may be required to work a specific shift and/or overtime in accordance with DRI leave policy and performs other duties as assigned
  • Ensure active and efficient care, training, and support for individuals in home living environment
  • Ensure the practice of appropriate teaching techniques in all training and care activities in living and training environment
  • Ensure that the home is maintained and is a safe and sanitary living environment for individuals
  • Participates in the development of individuals’ treatment plans
  • Other duties assigned include but are not limited to actively participating and/or serving in a supportive role to meet DRI’s obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternative shift pattern assigned and/or location
  • Strength and flexibility to safely perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Initial Selection Criteria
  • Must be at least 25 years of age, hold a current valid Texas Driver’s License, and have no exclusions for insurance
  • High school diploma or GED is preferred
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, or SUR is preferred
  • Experience in direct care working with individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Ability to accurately enter information into a computer and perform simple mathematic calculations
  • Must possess good communication skills and professional manner when relation got staff, residents, vendors, and families
  • Must be organized and have ability to handle multiple tasks while maintaining attention to detail
  • Must be able to complete all training including medication training with 30 days of hire
  • Must be able to communicate, read, speak, and write English language

Shift Schedule: M-F 4p-12

Additional Information

Applicants must pass a criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct. All DRI employees are subject to random drug testing. Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours.

Requirements

Candidates must be at least 25 years old with a valid Texas Driver's License and a high school diploma or GED preferred. Experience in direct care and certifications in CPR or First Aid are highly desired.
