The Speech Pathologist provides advanced patient care including evaluations, goal setting, treatment planning, family training and the application of treatment techniques in accordance with designated practice act and department policy and procedure. Is responsible for providing inpatient care as per physician's orders. Supervises non-CCS (California Children's Services) paneled staff as requested. Participates in case conferences and discharge planning meetings. Works with the program coordinator, case manager and/or MTU (Medical Therapy Unit)/school representative communicating and coordinating recommendations for ongoing therapy and equipment needs upon discharge. Performs other duties as needed.
Master' s Degree in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders required. Nine months of experience in a medical speech pathology or rehabilitation setting required.
Able to use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment; perform technical patient care activities. Able to read, write legibly, speak in English with professional quality; communicate effectively, in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information; pay close attention to detail.
Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.
Current Speech Pathology licensure required. American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification and Basic Life Support certification required. CCS-Paneled required if assigned to Pediatric Rehabilitation or fulfill CCS paneling requirements within twelve months from hire date.
A Master's Degree in Speech Pathology or Communicative Disorders and nine months of medical rehabilitation experience are required. Candidates must hold a current Speech Pathology license, ASHA certification, and BLS certification.
