About the role

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for obtaining vital signs and preparing patients for admission and discharge in pre-op and PACU areas. They also manage medical supply inventory and maintain a clean, safe clinical environment.

Ortho Access walk-in clinics provide same day care for orthopedic injuries.

Comprehensive care offered all in one place enables physicians, therapists and staff to work closely together, so that patients and families achieve better outcomes.

Collaborative care is also more efficient.

In many cases, IBJI services are substantially less expensive than those provided by large healthcare systems and emergency rooms.

Job Description

Shift Type: 3 shifts per week / 10 hours per shift Benefits Eligible (30+ hours per week)

The Patient Care Technician is responsible for obtaining vital signs, assisting with maintaining patient flow, and performing other assigned duties to facilitate in preparing patients for admission and/or discharge within pre-op and the PACU. As a representative of this facility, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct effect on the center's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, guest, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork that is congruent with the center's standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

Responsibilities

Obtains vital signs, assists with obtaining urine HCG results, Accu-Checks, and assists with all other clinical activities to prepare patients for admission or discharge as directed by a Registered Nurse (RN). Assists in transporting patients to family members’ vehicles upon discharge. Assists with escorting patients and their family members throughout the facility as needed. Stocks all pre-op rooms and PACU bays with all medical supplies and linens. Monitors supplies maintained on dock and keeps all supplies neat and organized. Maintains supplies and nutrition items in the PACU nutrition area. Assists in preparing medical supply orders based on agreed upon par and reorder levels. Cleans all carts for use in all clinical areas including pre-op, PACU, and OR. Cleans all pre-op rooms and PACU bays in between patients. Assists with removal of trash and dirty laundry. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Certifications/Licensure Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Medical Assisting Certification preferred. Experience in an ambulatory surgery center is preferred. BLS certification within 6 months of hire. Experience A minimum of two (2) years experience working in a direct patient care clinical environment as a patient care technician, medical assistant or certified nursing assistant is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ambulatory surgery center experience preferred. Technical Skills Knowledge in medical terminology preferred Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute ratio, rate, and percent. Soft Skills Ability to communicate well and effectively present information to patients, families, co-workers, etc. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to communicate in verbal and written methods. Ability to set priorities Ability to communicate well with patients, families, co-workers, etc. Superior interpersonal skills Physical Requirements While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to communicable diseases transmitted by patients and co-workers. Base salary offers for this position may vary based on factors such as location, skills and relevant experience.
