About the role

Oversee chemotherapy infusions, injections, and oral medications while managing treatment-related toxicities and complications. Collaborate with medical oncologists to perform clinical tasks, manage orders, and educate patients on treatment plans.

Position Summary

The Nurse Practitioner will be required to oversee chemotherapy infusion, injection, and oral medications. They will be expected to perform oncological procedures as needed, i.e. help with lines and portacath issues. This position requires the candidate to be familiar with chemotherapeutic agents and regimens, manage complications of therapy, and interpret laboratory and imaging results. This candidate will aid the physician in following patient’s treatments, results, and working in a collaborative nature with the primary medical oncologist including performing administrative and clinical tasks to support the work of Med Onc Physician. JOB DUTIES & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Overlook infusions. Manage infusion reactions, treatment-related toxicities, and treat as appropriate. Manage/ renew ongoing infusion chemo orders, modify as directed by collaborating physician. Place/ renew orders for non-chemotherapy infusion, injections as directed by collaborating physician. Manage orders for blood transfusion. Manage/coordinate prescriptions for radiological studies, procedures, LW prior to treatment. Obtain consent for tx if required by institution. Educate patients and families on treatment plans, chemotherapy toxicities, expected side effects, and symptom management. Independently assess and evaluate patients presenting for an infusion at PFCC with new or progressive symptoms/signs. Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory and radiology findings for patients seen in the infusion center. Manage outpatient phone calls regarding treatment related toxicity. Participate in continuous quality improvement efforts as needed. Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR). Prescribe medications and supportive therapies within scope of practice. Support clinical trials by assessing eligibility, monitoring adverse events, and documenting research related data when applicable. Performs other duties as assigned to support patient care and organizational objectives. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: NYS Licensed Nurse Practitioner. 2+ years’ experience in Medical Oncology. AED Certification. Current BLS & ACLS provider certification from the American Heart Association. Ability to effectively interrelate with all members of the healthcare team. Effective verbal and written communication skills. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in a clinical setting. Experience with Chemotherapy. EMR – Cerner/Powerchart. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking. Assist with lifting/helping patients in and out of the infusion chairs. Considerable stooping, bending, kneeling. As part of employment at Southampton Hospital, there may be occasions when travel to other locations is needed to support operational needs. Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. Requirements

Requires a NYS Licensed Nurse Practitioner with at least 2 years of experience in Medical Oncology. Must hold current BLS, ACLS, and AED certifications.
