The Histotechnician II position performs and formulates laboratory procedures based on histologic knowledge and principles. The technician verifies anticipated results utilizing quality control processes. The technician recognizes and solves problems with the minimal assistance from the Histology Lead Tech, when necessary.
Obtains gross specimens for histologic testing.
Operates histologic equipment (listed below).
Performs all requested procedures accurately, including: IHC, ISH, special and routine H&E stains.
Troubleshoots and adapts staining and microtomy procedures with minimal assistance.
Operates computer equipment and programs relative to essential job functions, included but not limited to: CoPath, Vantage, and Microsoft applications.
Performs quality control testing as outlined by the Histology Lead Tech, to include but not limited to: control tissue, equipment, and methods.
Maintains equipment and retains service logs.
Maintains appropriate supply inventory and prepares reagents.
Maintains and develops accurate laboratory records and standard operating procedures.
Participates in formal and/or informal continuing education.
Performs all duties and responsibilities as outlined by CLIA regulations.
Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
