About the role

Provide a supportive family atmosphere and direct care for adult men with developmental disabilities in a licensed Adult Foster Care facility. Responsibilities include medication administration, meal preparation, housekeeping, and facilitating community-based recreational activities.

Peckham inc. - Residential advisor/Direct care support

SUMMARY

Residential Advisor/ Direct Care Staff will provide a family atmosphere to six adult men with developmental disability. This position will be responsible for following compliance standards for Adult Foster Care licensed facilities and ensure a safe and caring environment for residents. Direct Care Staff must have the stamina to meet the physical, emotional, intellectual and social needs of each resident.

  • Main duties and responsibilities
  • Comply with Adult Foster Care licensing rules, CMH policies and guidelines, House Guidelines, Peckham/House of Ruth handbooks, HUD guidelines (including performance of safety drills such as fire, tornado, electrical, flood, etc).
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and compassion with residents including appropriate confidentiality practices
  • Maintain records such as resident person-centered plan updates, daily activity logs, House log notes/daily logs/CMH log notes, medication administration records, count controlled substances, safety drills, incidents, meal preparation sheets, and case notes etc.
  • Promote and encourage cooperation, self-esteem, self-direction, independence and normalization in all interactions with residents
  • Provide opportunity for resident development of positive social skills
  • Supervise, protect, and assist with resident personal care as specified in the resident assessment plan
  • As specified in the resident assessment plan, provide direction and opportunity for growth and development of independence; including involvement in educational, employment and day programs
  • Promote/plan and facilitate resident leisure and recreational opportunities including community-based activities
  • Foster resident relationships and a sense of family to include relatives and friends
  • Meal preparation in compliance with dietary considerations
  • Dispense medications as prescribed
  • Monitor sleep hours for resident safety and accountability
  • Housekeeping, general home maintenance, and laundry
  • Transport residents to appointments, and other activities
  • Oversee any required rehabilitation exercises
  • Communicate with parents/guardians as appropriate
  • Prepare HUD, Adult Foster Care License and Community Mental Health paperwork and reports
  • Other duties and responsibilities
  • Maintain safe and clean work environment
  • Promote Peckham’s vision values and services to all customers and stakeholders
  • Assist in maintaining organizational wide quality standards
  • Other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Or 1 months of experience
  • Must maintain an unrestricted Michigan driver’s license and possess a satisfactory driving record per the company auto insurance
  • Reliable transportation
  • Ability to travel to offsite locations 40% of the time
  • Ability to obtain First Aid, CPR, company and group home curriculum trainings

Physical demands

This position involves frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and engaging in physical play.

Tasks may also include occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs), carrying, running, and moving furniture, as well as light cleaning activities like sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming.

Employees will frequently communicate with and actively supervise others, requiring strong coordination.

The work environment is dynamic, with frequent exposure to noise, active settings, and occasional use of cleaning agents.

Conditions may involve rare exposure to temperature changes, confined spaces, or allergens.
