  • Level: 4 Year DegreeThe Nutritionist shall be responsible for specific duties and assist the Nutrition Education Coordinator in accomplishing Local Agency Objectives.

  • FUNCTIONS: The essential functions of this position consist of the ability to perform basic math functions, write, read and comprehend what is read. Expressive and receptive language skills are also required in the execution of the responsibilities below.

  • DUTIES: 1. Perform participant certification and recertification screenings including: income eligibility; nutritional/medical risk; blood work values and documentation/data entry in PENN. 2. Perform anthropometric measurements and use and interpret growth and prenatal weight gain grids. 3. Perform hematological test on applicants after completing training requirements and holds a valid Certificate of training approved by the Bureau of Laboratories. Staff trained on these procedures will be knowledgeable of all pertinent Policies and Procedures related to this area. 4. Prescribe WIC supplemental foods tailored to meet the individual needs. 5. Provide immunization screenings and voter registration opportunity according to policy. 6. Identify and prepare nutrition care plans/goals for all high risk participants and document high risk contacts. 7. Complete value-enhanced nutritional assessment and prepare nutrition care plans/goals tailored to meet the individual needs. 8. Make and record referrals to other health and social agencies, particularly medical assistance, food stamps, food banks, cash assistance, child support enforcement agencies, immunizations, substance abuse education and treatment programs, family planning, breastfeeding support services. 9. Promote breastfeeding and offer education and support resources, pump instruction as needed. 10. Perform participant data entry as indicated in compliance with Local Agency and State procedures. 11. Travel to satellite clinics for the purpose of delivering WIC services. 12. Follow State Agency and Local Agency Policies and Procedures. 13. Be familiar with the Annual Nutrition Education, Outreach, and Breastfeeding Plans of Local Agency. 14. Participate in meetings and continuing education programs as appropriate to assigned jobs; possible travel required. 15. Assure local agency compliance with requirements for documenting medical/nutritional risk status and all nutrition education services provided in participants files. Assist with internal monitoring as requested. 16. Assist in training new employees as requested. 17. Monitor inventory of nutrition/health education materials and supplies. Consult with Nutrition Education Coordinator as the needs arise. 18. Assist Nutrition Education Coordinator in preparing, implementing and evaluating annual goals and objectives.

  • SUPERVISED: None QualificationsThe Nutritionist shall meet the academic work requirements outlines below. Exception may be granted by the State Agency only. a) Be registered or eligible for registration with the American Dietetic Association. b) Hold at least a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts Degree from an accredited 4- year institution, with emphasis on one of the following: Food and Nutrition Community Nutrition Public Health Nutrition Nutrition Education Human Nutrition Nutrition Science or equivalent c) A minimum of one year’s experience is strongly recommended, or may be supervised in the agency by the Nutrition Education Coordinator. One year of graduate work can replace the one year work experience.

Requirements

Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Nutrition, Public Health, or a related field and be registered or eligible for registration with the American Dietetic Association. One year of experience or graduate work is strongly recommended.
