Perform vascular testing and diagnostic procedures on patients and prepare test data for interpretation by physicians.

Responsibilities

A day in the life of a Vascular Ultrasound Technician at Hackensack Meridian Health includes: Prepare, on a daily basis, test data and distribute such to the appropriate physicians for interpretation. Contact physicians regarding the outstanding status of reports, to maintain a turn-around of 24 hours. Educate the patient, using age appropriate guidelines, before each procedure, in an understandable manner; regarding the diagnostic procedure that is to be performed using good customer services techniques. Review the medical record, before each procedure, and validate the presence of a physician order. Prepare patient and perform non-invasive arterial and vascular procedures within 24-hours of receipt, including, but not limited to, carotid, venous Doppler, and arterial Doppler, and penile studies. Maintain patient records, patient logs, and submit monthly statistics for the vascular section. Facilitate the training of the vascular staff as preceptor, or assist the preceptor in the assurance of staff competency and job specific performance. Prepare preliminary reports for vascular studies, pending final reports, to improve patient care by decreasing response time for results. Assist the vascular surgeons during special procedures and intraoperative diagnostics. Performs M Mode, 2-D echocardiograms, cardio Doppler, TEE and stress echo diagnostics, if cross- trained. Coordinate the student intern program with the associated schools for diagnostic training. Evaluates students and maintains the appropriate records. Cleans equipment between patients, and covers with proper Linens. Maintains and inventory level and orders supplies, as needed. Assist in the compliance with laws and regulations, as set forth by the NJDOH, JCAHO and related professional associations. Assume On-Call rotation for after-hours and weekend coverage. Perform renal ultrasounds as ordered. Perform all activities with a patient focused attitude and Incorporate customer service in every aspect of related duties, Including AIDET, 5/10 rule and the no pass zone policy. Schedule patients for diagnostic procedures and instruct patients on proper registration procedures. Submits charges and credits as needed for completed or canceled procedures. Performs PM on equipment and troubleshoots problems. Evaluates equipment for upgrade and replacement. Complies with infection control and safety procedures. Conducts QA/PI for the Vascular section. Performs other duties as assigned. Transport patients, as needed.

Qualifications: Education,

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Required: High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs. Graduate of an approved cardiovascular training program One year experience in all phases of non-invasive vascular testing. Working Conditions: General diagnostic high volume, high stress environment. Works indoors in a well lighted and ventilated area. Possibility of cuts or minor burns from instruments and equipment Some direct exposure to contagion, but risk is minimal when proper safety precautions are observed. Willingness to work with the realization that errors and incompetency may have serious consequences to patients. Physical Demands: Long periods of sitting with frequent standing or moving to other areas. Constant verbal communication in person or using the phone. Frequent reading of physician orders, prescriptions and medical records. Transporting patients or equipment as needed. Mental Demands: Ability to read and concentrate frequently to check accuracy. Requires the flexibility to perform activities due to interruptions and changes in schedule, and demands. Ability to deal with stress of dealing with internal and external customers, frequent interruptions, and working on multiple tasks. Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and unbiased attitude when dealing with the staff. Organization in high pressure environment. Equipment Operated: Echocardiographic ultrasound machine, vascular ultrasound machine, PVR, various computer systems, PSCS, wheelchairs and stretchers. Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and graduation from an approved cardiovascular training program. Candidates must have at least one year of experience in all phases of non-invasive vascular testing.
