The Sonographer performs specialty sonograms in an acute care radiology setting while ensuring high-quality patient care and regulatory compliance. Key duties include verifying patient identification, maintaining accurate documentation, and collaborating with radiologists on imaging protocols.

Position Summary

The Sonographer delivers appropriate direct and indirect quality patient care and performs scans in compliance with regulatory and department processes. The Sonographer performs specialty sonograms in an acute care radiology setting.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES Ensures the correct procedure is performed on the correct patient by verifying two forms of patient identification on “Every Patient / Every Time”.

Accurately completes all required written and electronic documentation (ex: patient history, pregnancy, IV contrast, procedural consent, MAR, safety portal, medication reconciliation, PACS).

Ensures all charges are complete and accurate for all procedures and supplies used.

Reviews exam orders from medical charts and prescriptions prior to performing an exam.

Performs procedure protocols, produces images consistent with image quality standards and follows all Federal, State and Regional healthcare regulations, adhering to American College of Radiology (ACR) and The Joint Commission (TJC) standards.

Actively collaborates with supervising Radiologist(s) on imaging protocols, quality assurance, and communication of acute clinical findings.

Positions patients properly using appropriate technique, identifies, prepares and administers medications within the technologist’s scope of practice as prescribed by a licensed independent practitioner.

Practices aseptic and sterile technique per Infection Control guidelines and policies.

Ensures equipment and room is clean and disinfected prior to each patient encounter and reports malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate department, fellow associates, and management in a timely manner.

Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Joint Review Committee Diagnostic Medical Sonography (JRC-DMS) Sonography Program. Work Experience: None Licensure: None Certification: Any one of the following within two (2) years of start date: American Registry of Radiologic Technologists for Sonography – ARRT (S) OR American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS). American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card prior to start date and maintained. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: Basic computer skills including knowledge of MS Office – Outlook and Word Excellent communication skills in an active team environment. Ability to assess and interpret data. Ability to clearly communicate with patient/family/physicians at various levels of understanding. Ability to take call acknowledging emergency alerts within five (5) minutes and presenting to hospital within sixty (60) minutes of alert. Flexibility to work evening and weekend shifts as scheduled. PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS Work Experience: Prior sonography work experience. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching frequently. May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance. May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead. May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift. May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting, and/or low to loud noise. May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines. Communicating with others to exchange information. Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks. Workspace may vary from open to confined. May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.

Requirements

Candidates must have graduated from a JRC-DMS program and hold an AHA BLS certification. ARRT (S) or ARDMS certification is required within two years of the start date.
