The Medical Assistant plays a critical role in supporting healthcare providers by ensuring the smooth operation of clinical and administrative tasks within a medical facility.

This position involves direct patient interaction, including preparing patients for examinations, taking vital signs, and assisting with medical procedures such as phlebotomy and specimen collection.

The Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a clean and sterile environment by properly sterilizing medical instruments and managing specimen processing accurately.

By collaborating closely with Nurse Practitioners and other healthcare professionals, the Medical Assistant helps deliver high-quality patient care and enhances overall clinical efficiency.

Ultimately, this role contributes significantly to patient satisfaction and the effective delivery of healthcare services.

As well manages Referrals to process of directing patients to the correct health care specialist, services or community resources.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an accredited program.
  • Proven experience in phlebotomy and specimen processing.
  • Knowledge of medical instruments and sterilization techniques.
  • Ability to accurately measure and record vital signs.
  • Strong understanding of clinical procedures and patient care protocols.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working alongside Nurse Practitioners/ MD's or in a similar clinical setting.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Additional certification in phlebotomy or specialized medical assisting skills.
  • Basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Certified Medical Assistant.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare patients for examination by taking vital signs and recording medical histories.
  • Assist healthcare providers, including Nurse Practitioners/Physicians, during medical examinations and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy and draw blood samples following proper protocols and safety standards.
  • Process and label specimens accurately for laboratory analysis.
  • Sterilize and maintain medical instruments and equipment to ensure a safe clinical environment.
  • Manage patient records and documentation in compliance with healthcare regulations.
  • Schedule patient appointments and coordinate communication between patients and healthcare staff.
  • Verifies patients' eligibility and insurance coverage, obtains pre-authorizations for treatments or service and handles any denial letters.
  • Perform applicable medical procedures collect and prepare Laboratory specimen, administer injection/immunizations and perform venipuncture.

  • The required skills such as Medical Assisting, Medical Instruments handling, and Phlebotomy are essential for performing clinical tasks like drawing blood, taking vital signs, and assisting with patient examinations.
  • Proficiency in Specimen Processing and Sterilization ensures that all samples are handled safely, and instruments are maintained in a hygienic state, which is critical for patient safety and infection control.
