About the role

The Registered Nurse is responsible for the assessment, planning, and implementation of patient care in accordance with facility policies and legal regulations. Key duties include administering medications, documenting patient responses, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure safe delivery of care.

Accountable for

The Registered Nurse (R.N.) is responsible for age appropriate assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluation of assigned patients, and assuring the planned care is delivered in a safe, economical and efficient manner following JMH’s Policies and Procedures. The R.N. is responsible for complying with State and Federal Rules and Regulations for Hospitals; as well as complying with standards of care and all accrediting and legal requirements.

General purpose and essential functions

Responsibilities: and Duties:

1.

Provides direct patient care by assessing, planning, implementing, and documenting individual patient care needs, actions taken and patient responses according to facility policies and procedures.

2.

Accurately reports and records patient conditions, including signs and symptoms of a significant change.

3.

Administers medications as ordered by the physician.

4.

Documents all verbal physician orders received; repeats and verifies all verbal orders and documents.

5.

Delegates or assigns aspects of patient care to healthcare team members commensurate with their validated competency to perform the task.

6.

Assist in maintaining an environment that is conducive to the appropriate delivery of safe, relevant and quality patient care.

7.

Counts and administers narcotics per facility policy 8.

Participates in change of shift report when appropriate 9.

Promotes infection control practices routinely.

10.

Performs related work as required

Related Functions

1.

Arrives for scheduled shift no earlier than fifteen (15) minutes before the shift begins and clocks out no later than fifteen (15) minutes after the scheduled shift ends.

2.

Required to work weekends on a rotating basis.

3.

Responsible for one overtime shift a month if needed.

4.

Demonstrates loyalty to the organization, honesty, and integrity at all times in the care and use of patient / resident and facility property.

5.

Demonstrates positive support of any and all programs / projects implemented by the DON or Administration.

6.

Maintains confidentiality of patient / resident information.

7.

Displays a neat, clean, and professional appearance at all times.

8.

Cooperates when needed if the facility faces an emergency or unusual circumstance.

9.

Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities through monitoring and evaluation of patient care.

10.

May be asked to participate on committees and community projects.

11.

Participate in staff meetings, in-service programs, performance improvement, and infection control activities as necessary.

12.

Promote teamwork with physicians, patients, families, visitors, and co-workers.

13.

Use proper body mechanics for transfers, lifting, etc… 14.

All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education/Training Experience

Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

Current valid R.N. Georgia license with no restrictions.

At least one year clinical experience preferred.

Current BLS certification is required.

ACLS certification is required within one year of employment.

PALS certification is preferred and strongly encouraged.

Freedom from illegal use of drugs and freedom from use and effects of drugs and alcohol in the workplace.

Verbal and Written Communication Skills

Must be able to read, write and speak the English language fluently. Must be able to relate to individuals with various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Interpersonal Skills

Relates cooperatively and constructively with all patients, guests, families, physicians, peers, and all healthcare members as well as anyone that JHS’ employees interact with while performing their daily duties.

Essential Technical/Motor Skills

Full Ambulation and precise eye-hand coordination. Some basic computer skills are required.

Essential Mental Abilities

Knowledgeable and competent to perform essential functions. Must be able to deal with a variety of personalities with whom the employee comes into contact with, both pleasant and irate.

Essential Sensory Requirements

Ability to visually and audibly perform all essential functions.

Essential Physical Requirements

Moderate to high amount of walking, standing, sitting, reaching, pulling, pushing, stooping, and kneeling. Minimum lifting requirement of 50 pounds.

Exposure to Hazards

Exposure to infectious diseases, blood and body fluids, and chemical products.

Other

Assumes responsibility for professional growth and expertise.

Must meet minimum requirements of the performance standards outlines in the criteria based evaluation and competency package.

Must meet minimum physical requirements as outlined in this job description.

3.

Must meet education and experience requirements as outlined in this job description.

4.

Must meet all billing and legal compliance requirements as established by Hospital policies and procedures.

5.
