About the role

Assist nursing staff in meeting clients' biopsychosocial and cultural needs while providing direct patient care. Responsibilities include monitoring vital signs, documenting patient status, and maintaining a safe environment.

(This position is non-certified) Full-time, nights, 6

30p - 7a, every other weekend & every other holiday.

Job Summary

To assist nursing staff in meeting the clients’ biopsychosocial, developmental, spiritual, and cultural needs while functioning as an integral part of the treatment team.

Functions and Duties

  • Provides direct patient care activities as directed by the licensed nursing staff in accordance with defined departmental and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assumes responsibility for clients assigned.
  • Communicates client status and any changes in condition to Charge nurse in a timely manner.
  • Responds promptly and cooperatively to direction given by licensed staff.
  • Records client information accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Takes and records client's blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and capillary blood glucose testing including quality controls. Informs nurse of abnormal results immediately.
  • Records clients’ food intake, output, hours of sleep, as appropriate.
  • Monitors clients and documents appropriately according to risk precaution level.
  • Maintains a safe environment monitoring continuously for any harmful contraband.
  • Attends in-services, training, and meetings as required.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings.
  • Adheres to staffing and scheduling policy (to include use of overtime),
  • Follows chain of command resolving any issues or problems identified.
  • Maintains an active role in maintaining customer service.
  • Precepts and trains other employees as assigned.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two years experience in a health care or related setting required.
  • Certification not required.
  • Obtains and maintains basic life support (BLS) certification within 6 months of employment.
  • Obtains and renews annually or as recommended by departmental leadership crisis de-escalation certification.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Physical Demands

Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) (mask, gown, gloves) when required.

Requires grasping and reaching with hands/arms.

Ability to lift up to, but not limited to 25 pounds when assisting clients, turning clients or assisting client with activities.

Requires bending, stooping, and walking.

Requires good body mechanics to prevent injury.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and at least two years of experience in a healthcare or related setting. Must obtain BLS and crisis de-escalation certifications within the specified timeframes.
