About the role

The RN is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of total nursing care for pediatric psychiatric patients. This includes supervising non-professional personnel and collaborating with a multi-disciplinary team to ensure quality patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Our comprehensive pediatric programs and services are designed to bring hope and healing to children and adolescents who face complex psychiatric, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders.

  • Treatment programs at Laurel Heights Hospital are structured for youth ages 6–17 who are dealing with general psychiatric difficulties and trauma.
  • We also offer specialty mental health programs for children with co-occurring neurodevelopmental disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders.

  • The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity.
  • Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age-related needs of the specific patient populations served in nursing unit.
  • Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Laurel Heights and facility goals and strategic plans.
  • What you will do Demonstrates ability to assess patient clinical and psychosocial needs by applying standards of practice as it relates to the specialty or patient population.
  • Demonstrates nursing unit specific competencies and equipment training, see checklists.
  • Partners with patients and their family to develop, implement and evaluate a plan of care, treatments and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes of the patient.
  • Incorporates evidence-based standards of practice and collaborates with interdisciplinary team in care coordination.
  • Facilitates safe patient transition to next level of care as part of plan of care.
  • Demonstrates sense of urgency to facilitate patient throughout to ensure patient receives consistent, competent and ethical care.
  • Focuses on quality outcomes of patient when addressing service needs to ensure evidence-based quality care of patient.
  • Demonstrates understanding of diverse patient care populations.
  • Modifies education method to ensure patient/family understanding.
  • Assumes responsibility to coordinate and deliver individualized patient education and discharge specific education to family/caregivers.
  • Evaluates for comprehension and documents.
  • Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per Laurel Heights standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Delegates and prioritizes tasks appropriately to facilitate quality patient care and service excellence to meet the patient's care needs.
  • Recognizes and responds to emergency situations.
  • Evaluates resources and support needed and uses systems to ensure needs are met.
