Facilitates invasive procedures by preparing sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies while maintaining the sterile field. Anticipates the surgeon's needs during operations and assists with preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative duties.
Preoperative
Duties are as follows: Donning OR attire and personal protective equipment (PPE). Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure. Performs the surgical scrub, and donning gown and gloves. Sets up the sterile back table and Mayo stand with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions needed for the procedure. Performs initial instrument, sharps and sponge counts with the circulator. Assists the team members with gowning and gloving. Assists with draping the patient and establishing the sterile field. Participates in the surgical site and patient verification during the time out procedure. Secures tubing, cords and other sterile accessories. Maintains sterile field and reports any contamination.
Intraoperative
Duties are as follows: Prepares and anticipates additional instrumentation, equipment and supplies for usage during the procedure. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies to surgeon during procedure. Labels, measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during the surgical procedure. Holds retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon. Sponges or suctions on the operative site. Applies electrocautery to clamps or forceps on bleeders. Cuts suture material as directed by the surgeon. Coordinates the camera or changes out robotic arms/instruments during endoscopic surgery as directed by the surgeon. Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during the procedure. Performs additional counts as necessary. Prepares sterile dressings and/or immobilization devices. Prepares and passes off specimen(s) as appropriate. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Assists other members of the team with terminal cleaning of room. Assists in prepping the OR for the next patient. Participates in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
Postoperative
Duties are as follows: When SPD is unavailable, decontamination of instruments/equipment. Assist with post procedure cleaning of the operative or other invasive procedure room and prepare room(s) for subsequent patients.
Other
Duties are as follows: Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information. Participate in ongoing educational and competency verification activities applicable to scrub person activities. Assist with stocking chores. The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures. Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum). Performs other related duties as assigned.
A.Education Required: Must be a graduate of an accredited school or Surgical Technology Program,
Must possess a minimum of one year current operating room experience (student experience allowed).

D.Equipment/Tools/Work Aides Includes but is not limited to surgical instruments and equipment, video equipment, and sterilizers.
E.Specialized Knowledge & Skills Ability to provide care for the patient’s age-specific, cultural physical and psychosocial well being during the perioperative phase.
F. Other Bilingual and/or English-Spanish speaking preferred. Ability to work with culturally diverse populations. 1 Hour USD $29.83/Hr. USD $54.52/Hr. 01-3210 Surgery - Hospital Flex Schedule
Must be a graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program with at least one year of operating room experience. BLS certification is required, and certification as a Surgery Tech is desired.
