About the role

The surgeon is responsible for diagnosing and treating orthopaedic conditions through both conservative and surgical joint replacement methods. Duties include performing inpatient and outpatient surgeries, managing hospital call, and collaborating with an inter-professional care team.

Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI), a division of the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO), is seeking a board certified/board eligible orthopaedic surgeon specializing in joints for our busy practice in Frederick, Maryland.

MMI is the largest group of musculoskeletal specialists in the area, consisting of 14 physicians and 10 advanced practice providers providing state-of-the-art care to our patients. Onsite ancillary services include physical therapy, hand therapy, imaging and an accredited ASC.

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics is one of the nation’s largest Orthopaedic practices, with approximately 175 physicians serving communities across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. CAO is committed to be the Orthopaedics provider of choice for our patients and the employer of choice by attracting and retaining talented providers and support staff.

  • This position is perfect for a motivated physician looking to work in a team-orientated environment. Some of the focus areas needed are:
  • Outpatient and Inpatient Surgery (hospital and ASC)
  • Comprehensive diagnoses and treatment of orthopaedic related conditions
  • Ordering and interpretation of results of diagnostic tests and imaging
  • Reaching quality targets to achieve shared savings incentives
  • Participating in hospital and group call

We take a patient-centered approach and we are committed to the treatment of joint replacements with either conservative and/or surgical means. We strive to provide our patients with prompt, courteous, and caring services while providing the highest quality care possible. The Joint Replacement Surgeon is responsible for determining and prescribing courses of treatment for patients with injuries, disorders, or malformations and performing required surgery.

Primary Responsibilities The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO.

Diagnose, treat, or prescribe treatment using medical histories, physical examinations, x-rays and laboratory test results.

Hospital and group call

Perform surgeries within the scope of practice.

Consults with inter-professional team on the care of patients.

Prescribes medications, corrective devices, physical therapy, or surgery; sets fractures.

Administers medications and local anesthesia.

Records all diagnoses, treatments, and prescriptions.

Refers patients to other physicians or specialists for consultation in an inter-professional manner.

Advises patients about treatments to prevent future problems.

Ensures consistent compliance with all regulatory and CAO guidelines, policies, and procedures.

Performs other duties assigned.

  • Required Education and Experience
  • Licensed and board-certified or board-eligible M.D. in Orthopaedic Surgery in the State of Maryland. Fellowship training preferred
  • Must have extensive training or experience in joints replacement.
  • BLS Certification required
  • Must maintain CEU's in pertinent clinical practice according to licensure requirements
  • Experience and proficiency working with computers and electronic medical records

Physical Demands

Must be able to sit for long periods of time and lift up to 50 pounds.

Must be able to use appropriate body mechanics when making necessary transfers and helping patients with exercises.

Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.

Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift.

Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.

Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone.

Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.

Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.

Requires exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment.

Requirements

Candidates must be a licensed M.D. in Orthopaedic Surgery in Maryland and be board-certified or board-eligible. Extensive training in joint replacement and BLS certification are required, with fellowship training preferred.
