CORE JOB SUMMARY The Special Procedures Technologist 3 assists with the day-to-day operations of interventional radiology and during complex procedures through the operation of radiographic equipment to obtain the highest quality diagnostic images with the least amount of radiation exposure the incumbent provides various imaging services to assist interventional physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional procedures. The Special Procedures Technologist 2 maintains efficient workflow of the section and promotes UCARE goals to achieve the highest quality care and customer service.

Core job functions 1.

Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth.

Corroborates patient's clinical history and ensures information is documented and available for use.

2.

Assist with patient interviews before a procedure and documents all relevant information.

3.

Ensures that the attending radiologist obtains the proper informed consent.

4.

Prepares the patient for procedures to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety.

5.

Notifies appropriate person of any change(s) in patients’ status.

6.

Maintains proper sterile techniques for procedures and strictly practices aseptic technique.

7.

Assists the radiologist throughout procedures with all the necessary supplies.

8.

Applies principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.

9.

Positions the patient for the examination and obtains good technical quality scout film of the area before starting procedures.

10.

Assumes care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.

11.

Initiates life support measures for patients and assists in cardiopulmonary resuscitation during medical emergencies.

12.

Maintains working knowledge of all patient monitoring devices.

13.

Provides patient education in collaboration with other department staff.

14.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Associate degree in relevant field required

Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

Certification and Licensing: Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements
