About the role

Perform direct and indirect patient care across various settings including Pediatrics, Emergency, and Surgical units using the nursing process. Supervise non-licensed personnel and maintain accurate computerized documentation for admissions, discharges, and medication administration.

Summary Under the direction of, and in collaboration with unit management, performs responsibilities exercising initiative, judgment, and independent decision-making within the scope of the State Nurse Practice Act, hospital policy and other governing organizations. Utilizes the nursing process (assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation) in a systematic approach to the direct and indirect care of patients and their families.

Job Duties Provide quality care in multiple settings

  • Pediatrics, Medical, Surgical (inpatient/outpatient), Emergency, Senior Care, Nursery, Chemotherapy and Ambulance Transport as needed/delegated. Maintains certifications in all areas within scope of practice. Supervision of LPNs, Nursing Assistants and Health Unit Coordinators as needed.
  • Effectively utilize nursing process: Demonstrates effective interviewing and assessment skills and integrates new or current techniques to obtain physical/psycho-social information from the patient/family to plan, implement, and evaluate patient care through the nursing process. Initiates and maintains patient care plan to reflect current patient needs utilizing computerized documentation.

  • Service: Respects the privacy and dignity of every customer, internal or external. Is courteous and friendly, uses a quiet, respectful tone of voice when speaking with customers. Follows hospital policies regarding confidential or sensitive information; is Sensitive to cultural differences.

Identifies needs, instructs others, and actively supports the role of patient advocate/liaison by communication and documentation of patient information to the proper resources/agencies. Proper computerized documentation will be maintained at all times. This includes, but not limited to admission, discharge, medication administration, teaching, activities of daily living and accurate intake/output. Required Education and Experience Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited school of nursing Current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Minnesota Successful completion of a criminal background check as required by the State of Minnesota Certifications Required at Hire: Basic Life Support (BLS) Required Within 3 Months of Hire: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Required Within 6 Months of Hire: Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Additional Training All newly hired RNs will receive in‑house trauma training within the first year of employment. This training meets the educational objectives of the Minnesota State Trauma System, unless the RN has previously completed one of the following: Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) Comprehensive Advanced Life Support (CALS) Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) Certified Acute Trauma Nurse (CATN) Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR)

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work Provides patient care to a general population. Shifts are rotating 12 hour including rotating weekends and holidays.

Supervisory Responsibility Supervisory responsibilities would include oversight to non-licensed personnel who maybe assisting you with the care of your patients.

Requirements

Must be a graduate of an accredited nursing school with a current, unencumbered RN license in the State of Minnesota. Required certifications include BLS at hire, with ACLS and PALS to be obtained within 3 to 6 months.
