About the role

Responsible for collecting, processing, and analyzing laboratory specimens while maintaining accurate patient records in the Electronic Health Record. Ensures adherence to quality control policies, safety regulations, and HIPAA confidentiality standards.

Duties: And responsibilities:

Collects all laboratory specimens according to laboratory guidelines.

Follows the laboratory’s procedures for specimen handling and processing, test analyses, reporting and maintaining records of patient test results.

Maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens.

Adheres to the laboratory’s quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.

Follows the laboratory’s established policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory’s established acceptable levels of performance.

Demonstrates capability of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results, and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the Director of Laboratory Services.

Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.

Ensures test results and other patient-specific data are accurately and reliably sent from point of data entry (whether interfaced or entered manually) to final report destination, in a timely manner.

Accurately and systematically records patient related data in the Electronic Health Record.

Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of supplies, and ensuring that all supplies are viable before use in patient testing.

All supplies are dated, when received and older stock will be rotated.

Responsible for following all safety procedures outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual and OSHA regulations, and ensuring that medical waste is properly disposed of.

Adheres to the terms and conditions set forth in BSHC’s corporate compliance program.

Ensures confidential information in accordance with BSHC’s policy and current HIPAA regulations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications / Requirements:

Associate’s degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution. Completion of a phlebotomy certification program, or have the experience and ability to perform Phlebotomy. Demonstrates effective written and verbal skills. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment.

Requirements

Requires an Associate's degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science. Candidates must have a phlebotomy certification or equivalent experience and ability to perform phlebotomy.
