Perform a variety of diagnostic imaging examinations including X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs to assist radiologists in patient diagnosis. Ensure patient safety through proper shielding, correct identification, and adherence to radiation safety protocols.

Where You’ll Work Founded in 1910, Dignity Health - Mercy Hospital is a 229-bed, acute care, nonprofit hospital located in Bakersfield, California.

Serving nearly 90,000 patients annually, the hospital offers a full complement of services including Level II NICU, cancer care, women’s health, and orthopedics.

Additionally, Mercy Hospital Downtown & Mercy Hospital Southwest have been recognized as an LGBTQ+ Healthcare Equality High Performer by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

They are both Joint Commission-certified Primary Stroke Centers.

Mercy Hospital Downtown offers the only inpatient Oncology Unit in Bakersfield while Mercy Hospital Southwest has the only Obstetric Emergency Department in Bakersfield.

One California Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Radiologic Technologist (Rad Tech), you will be pivotal in producing diagnostic images that enable Radiologists to accurately diagnose and manage patient conditions.Every day you will perform a variety of imaging examinations, including X-rays, ultrasound, diagnostic fluoroscopy, CT/CAT scans, and MRIs, while actively contributing to a positive patient experience through direct interaction.To be successful in this role, you will deeply understand diagnostic imaging's critical importance, encompassing expertise in workflow, patient positioning, and capturing precise results essential for timely and accurate diagnoses.

Technologist will perform quality procedures and radiographs using the appropriate department routine.

Must be able to perform all examinations using all the general radiographic equipment including portables and OR radiographic equipment.

Selects and uses proper immobilization and supportive devices when necessary.

Demonstrates knowledge of the different views associated with each exam.

Uses the correct markers and labels all films correctly.

Must mark and label exams correctly.

Ensures initials are on all images.

Responsible to make sure all exams display the patient name.

Prepares the room, equipment and supplies as dictated by the particular examination or patient need.

By end of shift room assignment must be stocked and cleaned.

Responsible to call for service if equipment is down and unable to reach Supervisor.

Responsible to let the Supervisor know when they are getting low on a particular supply.

Verifies correct patient using two patient identifiers.

Follows standard patient identifier of name and date of birth.

Evaluates patient condition to see if they are capable of answering questions necessary for proper identification.

Involves patient family members when needed for proper identification.

Demonstrates awareness of radiation safety for patients, self and co-workers.

Will not exceed radiation exposure limit for calendar year as stated in Title 17.

Must demonstrate on images that correct shielding was used on the patients.

Responsible to check the Radiation Film Badge report.

Exhibits and demonstrates good communication skills with patients, family members, co-workers and hospital staff.

No negative feed-back.

Ensures patient or family member understands procedure.

Adopts AIDET program to ensure quality patient care.

Responsible that images reflect ability to compensate for age of the patient.

Job Requirements Required: High School Graduate or GED Education level necessary to obtain required licensure and certifications Medical Radiographer: CA Fluoroscopy Radiology Tech: CA One of the following: Registered Technologist Radiography ARRT, Registered Technologist Bone Densitometry, Registered Technologist Computed Tomography, Registered Technologist Cardio Interventional Radiography, Registered Technologist Mammography, Registered Technologist Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Registered Technologist Nuclear Medicine Technology, Registered Technologist Quality Management, Registered Technologist Radiation Therapy, Registered Technologist Vascualr Inteventional Rad, Registered Technologist Vascular Sonography Current BLS through American Heart Association (AHA BLS) Excellent verbal and written skills to facilitate communication with medical and technical personnel.

Must have the ability to read, write and speak English Preferred: Previous experience in Diagnostic Radiology

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or GED and valid California licensure for Medical Radiography and Fluoroscopy. Must hold an ARRT certification in a relevant imaging modality and a current AHA BLS certification.
