About the role

Responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, and documentation of patient cardiac rhythms via electronic systems. The role involves notifying nursing staff of variances and alarms according to departmental policy.

Wage Range

$25.98 - $39.89 per hour

Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum.

Job Summary:

Responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication, and documentation of patient cardiac rhythms and rhythm components via electronic systems.

Responsible for notifying appropriate staff of variance and alarms according to departmental policy.

Documents patient data in a timely manner according to departmental standards.

Monitored patients are not limited to a maximum number or specific age group.

Performs job duties directly on a nursing unit or remotely in a central unit under the direction of a Registered Nurse.

Primary Duties: 1.

Monitors patients using electronic systems.

Analyzes cardiac rhythm and records measurements, calculations, and interpretation of patient records in accordance with established protocols.

2.

Monitors and reviews patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm and prior variances.

Abnormal clinical signs, variances and alarms are recognized immediately according to established departmental criteria.

3.

Notifies Registered Nurse of cardiac rhythm or rhythm component variance and alarms.

4.

Patient data is documented in a timely, accurate and complete manner according to departmental standards.

Assembles and maintains patient telemetry record for admission to discharge.

5.

Maintains all telemetry equipment and telemetry supplies inventory.

6.

Orients and trains new staff and students.

7.

Performs other duties as assigned.

License, Certification, Education or Experience

REQUIRED for the position:

  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Previous hospital inpatient experience either in direct bedside care or unit clerical duties
  • A successful test score on interpretation of cardiac rhythms and rhythm components
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Current Healthcare Provider BLS- American Heart Association by start date

DESIRED for the position

  • Previous experience as a telemetry monitor technician.
  • Prior successful completion of a dysrhythmia recognition course including: cardiac anatomy and physiology; correct monitoring lead placement; waves, intervals, and measurements, including QT intervals and ST segments; interpretation of sinus rhythms, atrial rhythms, junctional rhythms, atrioventricular blocks, bundle branch blocks, and ventricular rhythms; paced rhythms and pacemaker malfunctions.
