About the role

Perform ultrasound procedures and related imaging studies to provide sectional anatomic images for licensed practitioners. Provide high-quality patient care and education while documenting procedures in accordance with hospital protocols.

Be a part of a world-class academic health-care system, University of Chicago Medicine, as a Radiology Sonographer in the Radiology Department.

Here you will perform ultrasound and related procedures to demonstrate sectional anatomic images for interpretation by or at the request of a licensed practitioner.

The sonographer will provide appropriate patient care and recognize patient’s conditions essential for successful completion of the procedures and the services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols and hospital policies and procedures.

This position is a 100% onsite opportunity in Hyde Park.

You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Essential Job Functions

Performs ultrasound procedures selecting proper technical equipment settings and images in proper sequence according to set protocols established by the Department of Radiology.

Follows directives of the Imaging Team Lead to perform high quality imaging studies.

Consults with the team lead when necessary to verify request for procedures to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.

Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate quality images.

Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of patient care and age-specific sensitivities.

Participates in lifting and transporting patients to and from department when necessary.

Evaluates the resultant images in comparison with industry standards and takes corrective action, if needed.

Refers to appropriate reference materials for clarification when needed and consults with Imaging Team Lead when assistance is necessary.

Provides patient education prior to, during and subsequent to the procedure in order to reduce the patient’s anxiety and enhance his comfort zone with and tolerance of the procedure.

Utilizes Radiology information systems in accordance with current guidelines and protocols.

Documents imaging procedures manually and/or electronically to insure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking.

Performs other duties assigned by Imaging Team Lead and Department Manager

Required Qualifications

  • Satisfactory completion of formal Ultrasound training program through an accredited school
  • ARDMS registry eligible
  • Effective communication skills and excellent patient care skills required
  • Handle high pressure, fast paced work environment
  • Excellent teamwork
  • CPR and BLS training required

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years Ultrasound experience in abdominal, small parts, pediatric and vascular exams

Compensation & Benefits Overview

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits. The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.

Requirements

Requires completion of an accredited Ultrasound training program and ARDMS registry eligibility. CPR and BLS training are mandatory, with a preference for 2 years of experience in abdominal, small parts, pediatric, and vascular exams.
