Job Summary

The Rehabilitation Technician 1 assists each discipline in rehabilitation (physical therapy, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, speech pathology) in performing specific non-patient care tasks as assigned to promote a smooth and efficient operation. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED required. Currently enrolled Into a program offered in the School of Allied Health Professionals (i.e., Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy or Nursing) OR a minimum of one year of recent health care experience in rehabilitation nursing or a therapy service (i.e. physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, recreational therapy) preferred.

Knowledge and Skills

Requires job flexibility with excellent communication skills. Manipulate wheelchair pieces. Repair minor problems with equipment. Ability to work with a team. Recognizes safety problems and make the appropriate correction. Be able to follow simple to moderate directions. Able to read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Operate and troubleshoot basic office and patient care equipment required for the position; perform required patient care activities related to the position. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; work well under pressure; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail; work independently with minimal supervision. Able to distinguish colors as necessary; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone, and identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to the position.

Requirements

A high school diploma or GED is required, with a preference for candidates enrolled in an Allied Health program or possessing one year of rehabilitation healthcare experience. Applicants must demonstrate strong communication skills and the ability to operate basic office and patient care equipment.
