As a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, you will deliver specialized, evidence-based care to high-acuity newborns while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team dedicated to improving outcomes for the most vulnerable patients.

The Role In UVA Health’s 60-bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, you will practice in a dynamic, high-acuity environment where critical thinking and collaboration are essential.

As part of a leading academic medical center, you will care for neonates requiring complex medical and surgical interventions.

On a typical day, you will: Deliver comprehensive, family-centered nursing care to critically ill neonates across a range of acuity levels Perform continuous assessment, monitoring, and intervention for conditions such as prematurity, respiratory distress, congenital anomalies, and post-surgical recovery Partner closely with neonatologists, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate individualized care plans Utilize advanced technologies and evidence-based protocols to support optimal patient outcomes Educate and support families through highly emotional and complex care journeys Contribute to a fast-paced, highly specialized unit where clinical expertise and adaptability are essential Engage in continuous learning within an academic setting that supports professional growth, research, and innovation This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact every shift, balancing technical skill with compassionate care for patients and families at a pivotal moment in their lives.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program required.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing required within 5 years of hire.

Experience

1 year of relevant experience.

Licensure

Licensed to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia. American Heart Association (AHA) Health Care Provider BLS certification required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling, bending/stooping. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 20 - 50lbs. May be exposed to chemicals, blood/body fluids and infectious disease. The pay range for this role is $39.90 - $53.00 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.

Requirements

Requires a graduate degree from an accredited nursing program and a valid Registered Nurse license in Virginia. Candidates must have at least one year of relevant experience and AHA BLS certification.
