Location: Logan Health Medical Center – Kalispell, Montana Schedule: Day Shift – 10 hours | Full-Time – 40 Hours If you're looking for a challenging and rewarding surgical career, our Cardiac Surgery team offers the opportunity to work alongside highly skilled surgeons and clinicians performing complex cardiovascular procedures.

As a Cardiac Surgical Technologist, you'll play a vital role in ensuring every procedure runs safely and efficiently by anticipating the needs of the surgical team, maintaining the sterile field, and preparing specialized instruments and equipment used in open-heart and vascular procedures.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Surgical Technologist who thrives in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and takes pride in precision, teamwork, and exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities Prepare and maintain the sterile field throughout cardiovascular surgical procedures.

Accurately select, prepare, and organize specialized instruments, equipment, supplies, and implants required for cardiac surgical cases.

Set up the cardiovascular operating room according to surgeon preference cards and procedural requirements.

Demonstrate expert knowledge of surgical asepsis and immediately recognize and address breaks in sterile technique.

Anticipate the surgeon's needs by efficiently passing instruments, sutures, supplies, and specialized equipment throughout procedures.

Assist with instrument, sponge, needle, and sharps counts to ensure patient safety.

Properly drape patients while maintaining the highest standards of sterile technique.

Assist with preparation, labeling, handling, and disposition of surgical specimens.

Support room turnover, equipment cleaning, and preparation for subsequent procedures.

Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesia providers, nurses, perfusionists, and the multidisciplinary cardiovascular team to provide exceptional patient care.

Participate in departmental competencies, continuing education, and quality improvement initiatives.

Maintain regular and reliable attendance as scheduled.

Required Qualifications Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program or military-trained Operating Room Technologist.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Certification through the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) required within two (2) years of joining the Cardiovascular Surgery team.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.

Ability to prioritize tasks, think critically, and perform effectively in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and commitment to outstanding patient care.

Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous hospital operating room experience. Experience assisting with cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgical procedures. Experience working with a variety of complex surgical specialties. Qualifications

Certification by the Association of Surgical Technologist (AST) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT); must be successfully obtained within two (2) years of hire onto the CV team required. Graduate of an approved school of Operating Room Technologists or military trained required. Previous hospital experience with skills in a variety of cases performed preferred. Current BLS CPR required. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences. Excellent organizational skills, detail-oriented, a self-starter, possess critical thinking skills and be able to set priorities and function as part of a team as well as independently. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy. Possess strong customer service skills and ability to multi-task in an ever changing workload environment. Commitment to working in a team environment and maintaining confidentiality as needed. Job Specific Duties: Responsible for the sterility of supplies and the smooth efficient flow of the CV surgical procedures. Accurately selects all equipment and supplies needed for CV surgical cases. Assists with set up in CVOR Suite for specific CV surgeries while accurately following the preference card. Exhibits an excellent working knowledge of surgical asepsis and recognizes and verbalizes breaks in techniques. Anticipates the surgeon’s needs and reacts accordingly. Efficiently passes the appropriate instrumentation, sutures and supplies to surgeons and/or assistant. Exhibits a commitment to professionalism while undertaking and completing all departmental competencies. Accurately sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and solutions as needed for procedure. Exhibits proper usage of surgical drapes to cover patients. Maintains and exhibits highest standard of sterile technique during procedures. Assists as directed in cutting sutures and keeping track of items such as sponges, needles, etc. Assists with the preparation and disposal of lab specimens as directed. Assists team members with cleaning of room. The above essential functions are representative of major duties of positions in this job classification. Specific duties and responsibilities may vary based upon departmental needs. Other duties may be assigned similar to the above consistent with knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Not all of the duties may be assigned to a position. Maintains regular and consistent attendance as scheduled by department leadership.
