Position Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with mental health disabilities and behavioral health histories in community-based residential settings. This role helps individuals build skills, increase independence, and achieve goals identified in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and person-centered support plans.
The DSP works closely with clinical and support teams to implement interventions, assist with daily living activities, encourage community participation, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for those served.
- Essential duties and responsibilities
- Provide supervision and support in accordance with each individual's ISP and person-centered support plan.
- Assist individuals in achieving personal goals and desired outcomes.
- Complete required documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
- Administer medications in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
- Provide transportation to appointments, community activities, and other approved destinations.
- Support individuals with activities of daily living, including:
- Meal preparation
- Personal hygiene
- Toileting and personal care
- Household tasks
- Other individualized support needs
- Assist individuals with community integration and access to resources, including:
- Medical appointments
- Social services
- Recreational and leisure activities
- Community-based supports and services
- Promote independence, dignity, self-advocacy, and positive social interactions.
- Maintain a safe and supportive living environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.
Qualifications
- Required
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic computer and internet proficiency, including the ability to use email, electronic documentation systems, and timekeeping platforms.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and employment screenings, including FBI clearance where applicable.
- Preferred
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- Previous experience in mental health, behavioral health, residential services, or other human services settings.
