Position Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides direct care, supervision, and support to individuals with mental health disabilities and behavioral health histories in community-based residential settings. This role helps individuals build skills, increase independence, and achieve goals identified in their Individual Support Plans (ISPs) and person-centered support plans.

The DSP works closely with clinical and support teams to implement interventions, assist with daily living activities, encourage community participation, and ensure a safe and supportive environment for those served.

  • Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Provide supervision and support in accordance with each individual's ISP and person-centered support plan.
  • Assist individuals in achieving personal goals and desired outcomes.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and within established timeframes.
  • Administer medications in accordance with agency policies and procedures.
  • Provide transportation to appointments, community activities, and other approved destinations.
  • Support individuals with activities of daily living, including:
  • Meal preparation
  • Personal hygiene
  • Toileting and personal care
  • Household tasks
  • Other individualized support needs
  • Assist individuals with community integration and access to resources, including:
  • Medical appointments
  • Social services
  • Recreational and leisure activities
  • Community-based supports and services
  • Promote independence, dignity, self-advocacy, and positive social interactions.
  • Maintain a safe and supportive living environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisory staff.

Qualifications

  • Required
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic computer and internet proficiency, including the ability to use email, electronic documentation systems, and timekeeping platforms.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to successfully complete all required background checks and employment screenings, including FBI clearance where applicable.
  • Preferred
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Human Services, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in mental health, behavioral health, residential services, or other human services settings.
