Practice for this role

About the role

Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches for clients with mental health and substance use conditions. Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to support continuity of care.

Primary Therapist | Georgia

About the Organization

Our client is a behavioral health treatment organization in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area offering a comprehensive continuum of care for individuals navigating mental health and substance use conditions. Their programs span Partial Hospitalization (PHP), Intensive Outpatient (IOP), and standard Outpatient levels of care, with a strong emphasis on dual-diagnosis treatment that addresses both psychiatric conditions and substance use together. Their therapeutic approach draws on evidence-based modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), EMDR, trauma-informed therapy, motivational interviewing, and holistic practices. Among the populations they are deeply committed to serving are veterans and military-connected individuals.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a compassionate, clinically grounded Primary Therapist to join this multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time, on-site role centered on delivering individual and group therapy within a structured, supportive clinical environment. The organization has a strong commitment to serving veterans, and candidates with that clinical background or a personal connection to military service are especially encouraged to apply. This is a great opportunity for a clinician who is actively working toward full licensure and wants to grow in a setting that takes clinical development seriously.

Who Thrives Here

The clinicians who do their best work in this environment bring both clinical skill and genuine investment in their clients' lives. This includes those who understand the unique barriers veterans face when engaging with behavioral health care - the cultural context, the weight of service-related trauma, the complexity of co-occurring conditions - and who can meet those clients with steadiness, respect, and real clinical skill. If this population matters to you and you show up ready to do the work, this role is worth a serious look.

What You'll Do Provide individual and group therapy using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches including CBT, DBT, EMDR, and motivational interviewing Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and contribute to individualized treatment planning Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and clinical consultations Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in the electronic medical record Coordinate with internal team members and external providers to support continuity of care Actively engage in clinical supervision as part of the licensure progression process Support dual-diagnosis treatment across mental health and substance use presentations Uphold program standards and applicable Georgia licensing requirements

Requirements

Required: Master's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or a related field Active registration or associate licensure in Georgia and actively working toward full independent licensure (LPC, LCSW, or equivalent) Experience working with veterans, active-duty military, or military-connected individuals - through direct clinical practice, personal background, or military service Strong assessment skills and ability to engage clients with complex, co-occurring presentations Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centered, and culturally responsive care Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, collaborative, multidisciplinary setting Proficiency with electronic medical record systems and clinical documentation Preferred: Veteran status or military family background Experience in dual-diagnosis, substance use disorder, or higher levels of care (PHP/IOP)

Benefits

Compensation and Schedule Salary: $60,000 - $70,000 annually, commensurate with experience and licensure status Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Evening and weekend opportunities available for additional compensation Additional Benefits Health insurance through your state marketplace PTO and vacation Structured daytime schedule with work-life balance built in Clinical supervision support to facilitate licensure progression Collaborative, mission-aligned team with a meaningful patient population Opportunity to develop specialty experience in veteran and dual-diagnosis care This opportunity is posted by Atlantic Health Strategies on behalf of a behavioral health organization in the greater Atlanta, Georgia area.

Market context

Georgia therapy roles favor licensed clinicians

Primary therapist openings in Georgia often draw steady interest from candidates with graduate training, associate licensure, and experience serving veterans or military-connected clients. This role is competitive because employers typically look for both clinical readiness and a clear path toward independent licensure, while benefits like clinical supervision support, PTO, health insurance, and work-life balance can help offset the demands of the work. Review the AI-summarized requirements and benefits here to save time, then confirm your licensure path and veteran-service experience before applying.
