• Category: Health CareSUMMARY This position is expected to assess patients’ nursing care needs, evaluate effectiveness of care provided, and integrate nursing theory into clinical practice across both Emergency Services and Inpatient Services. The Float RN must apply nursing theory to assess, diagnose, treat, and evaluate patient care while analyzing ongoing assessment data to determine safe patient outcomes. The position requires State Licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) who collaborates with patients, families, providers, and multidisciplinary team members throughout the continuum of care. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to the following) Collaboratively coordinate the continuum of care across multidisciplinary team settings. Maintain adequate records reflecting patient condition, medications, treatments, and outcomes. Make rounds and assess assigned patients to determine care needs and required interventions. Develop patient care plans utilizing critical thinking, clinical judgment, and evidence-based practice. Apply nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to illness and injury. Provide emergency nursing interventions according to departmental policies, procedures, and protocols. Develop, coordinate, and implement admission, transfer, discharge, and follow-up planning. Monitor and adjust specialized equipment utilized in emergency and inpatient care settings. Act as patient and family advocate and liaison between providers and the patient/family. Initiate and assist with patient and family education regarding diagnosis, medications, treatments, discharge plans, and home care needs. Maintain competency with emergency department equipment, inpatient equipment, and high-risk medications. Effectively apply technical knowledge to problem solve and serve as a resource for staff members. Notify Charge Nurse of significant patient condition, acuity, or census changes so staffing can be adjusted appropriately. Participate in departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and performance improvement activities. Demonstrate openness to new approaches, methods, and technology in an ever-changing healthcare environment. Crosstrain and float between Emergency Services and Inpatient Services including after-hours OTIC responsibilities as operationally needed. Flexibility in schedule; willing to work additional hours, alternate shifts, weekends, holidays, and low-census adjustments as needed. Complete education and competency requirements for professional growth and technical knowledge. Regular attendance in coordination with WCHC attendance policy. Display and promote company values. Other duties as assigned. QualificationsSKILLS AND ABILITIES Demonstrates teamwork by working cooperatively within assigned departments and with outside departments. Demonstrates clinical and technical expertise in emergency and acute inpatient nursing care. Demonstrates critical and analytical thinking using a logical, systematic approach. Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly changing, and regulated environment. Displays knowledge of care required by pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations. Competent in management of acutely ill and critically ill patients. Strong written and verbal communication skills with a professional demeanor. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation. Effective time management, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Highly motivated with high ethical standards supporting WCHC goals and values. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Current license as a Registered Nurse issued by the State of Iowa or eligible for reciprocity. Current BLS certification. ACLS certification or willingness to complete within six months of hire. PALS certification or willingness to complete within six months of hire. TNCC certification preferred or willingness to complete within six months of hire. Two to four years of clinical experience in Emergency, Acute Care, Critical Care, or Medical-Surgical nursing preferred.
