About the role

The Orthodontic Assistant supports the orthodontist by performing clinical procedures, managing orthodontic appliances, and taking digital scans and X-rays. They are also responsible for patient education on oral hygiene and maintaining a sterile, compliant clinical environment.

Position Overview The Orthodontic Dental Assistant plays a key role in supporting the orthodontist and clinical team in delivering high-quality patient care.

This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to create a welcoming and comfortable experience for patients of all ages.

Key Responsibilities Assist the orthodontist during clinical procedures Prepare and sterilize instruments and treatment rooms Take dental impressions, digital scans, and photographs Place and remove orthodontic appliances under doctor supervision (brackets, wires, bands, etc., per state regulations) Adjust archwires and change elastics as directed Take orthodontic X-rays in compliance with state guidelines Educate patients on oral hygiene, appliance care, and treatment expectations Maintain accurate patient records and clinical notes Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control protocols Support efficient patient flow and operatory turnover Assist with inventory management and stocking supplies \n

Qualifications

Prior dental assisting experience required (orthodontic experience preferred) Dental Assistant certification as required by state Orthodontic assisting experience or certification (if applicable) X-ray certification (as required by state) CPR/BLS certification preferred Experience with dental software (Dentrix, Ortho2, Open Dental, etc.) preferred Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment What We’re Looking For Detail-oriented and highly organized Positive, friendly, and professional demeanor Strong patient communication skills Ability to multitask and stay efficient in a busy clinical setting Team player with a proactive attitude

Requirements

Candidates must have prior dental assisting experience and the necessary state certifications for dental assisting and X-rays. Proficiency in dental software and a professional, team-oriented demeanor are highly preferred.
