Summary The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating radiologic equipment to make clinical diagnostic images as directed by physicians and performing routine diagnostic procedures according to established standards and practices. General Hours of Work Monday through Friday days with weekend, holiday, and call involvement Education and/or Experience Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school. Graduate of a JRCERT accredited program in Radiologic Technology preferred. Bi-lingual experience preferred but not required. Certificate, Licenses, Registrations Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) and Permit of Practice (Iowa). Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date. Essential Functions Performs general radiology exams. If trained or certified in CT, performs CT scans. Operate and calibrate computed tomography equipment and set scan parameters to produce satisfactory images. Archive given scan data for permanent image storage as well as short-term image storage to optical disk system. Be familiar with retrieval of said stored images as well as the system networking capabilities. Perform 3D and multiplanar imaging of specific anatomy for various exams. If trained or certified in Mammography/DEXA, performs Mammography exams and DEXA scans. Determined proper exposure techniques for each exam. Adjusts lead shielding for radiation safety. Positions equipment for optimal breast imaging views. Safely activates machine while shielded and wears dose monitor badges. If trained in MRI, performs MRI scans. Identify, interview and screen patient for proper procedure requested. Educate and position patient to the specific exam being performed. Use radiation exposure precautions for age-specific patients. Be able to consult with radiologist, physicians and other patient-care personnel as to specific details of individual exams and for specialized protocols. Research lab data results, be familiar with IV Access Systems/Restrictions, and monitor injection of contrast material and patient condition throughout the exam. Prepare patient and adjust equipment for taking X-rays. Position and instruct patient regarding procedures. Administer contrast media when ordered. Determine proper voltage and current and desired exposure time. Arrange, attach or adjust immobilization and support devices, (e.g. sandbags, binders, etc. to obtain precise positions, prevent patient from moving and lessen discomfort). Adjust lead shield to protect unaffected parts of the body from exposure to radiation. Select proper CR plate and insert into holder or improvise method to assure appropriate set-up. Position equipment at proper distance and angle from body to specified area. From safety of protective enclosure or while shielded, activate machine. Take X-ray images in other areas of the hospital with portable equipment. Transport equipment to areas such as operating rooms, emergency room, and patient rooms. Observe sterile techniques and complete procedure promptly. Evaluate images and prepare them for reading by Radiologist as necessary. Must be computer literate and competent in PACs/EMR and general clerical duties. Assist with staff/student on-the-job training and orientation. Assist with the collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Diagnostic Imaging Department, Quality Assurance Department, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the law. Performs various clerical duties/In-House PACS functions. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

Requires an Associate's degree or equivalent and current ARRT registration with an Iowa Permit of Practice. CPR certification must be obtained within three months of hire, and experience in CT, MRI, or Mammography is preferred.
