  • Department: Nursing General Summary Under the supervision of the assigned LPN, RN or Unit Manager RN, provides activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, safety and comfort of residents/patients as assigned. Assists in providing a positive physical, social and psychological environment. Follows all center policies and procedures. Essential Job Functions Assists with resident/patient care needs and comforts including but not limited to: *Makes both occupied and unoccupied beds (as assigned) *Checks residents/patients frequently to assure that their personal care needs are met *Answers all call lights promptly
  • Performs food service functions including: *Serves food trays. *Serves between meal and bedtime snacks. *Keeps resident’s/patient’s water pitchers clean and filled with fresh water on each shift. Assists with keeping nursing and resident/patient care area neat, sanitary, and orderly. Appropriately records charges for supplies. Participates in the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care (“IPOC”) process as assigned. Follows work assignments and schedules. *Complies with laws and regulations applicable to position and acts in accordance with Center’s Compliance Program. Attends and participates in in-service training, performance improvement (“PI”) committees and other meetings as scheduled and directed. Treats all residents, visitors, and staff with courtesy. Follows center dress and hygiene policies. Safety Performs other duties as directed by center management Works overtime, holidays and weekends as scheduled Physical Demands The responsibilities of this position involve significant physical activities including standing, lifting (up to 60 pounds unassisted), bending, stooping, twisting, pushing and pulling. Tasks marked with an asterisk (*) are those that regularly require these physical activities. All employees of nursing homes may be required to provide lifting and transfer assistance to residents/patients. Lifting and/or transferring some residents/patients will require the use of a lifting device and/or assistance of other staff.

  • CONDITIONS: Inside work, normal temperatures, some noise, occasional fumes/odors, chemical exposure and potential exposure to blood borne pathogens. This job cannot be performed without exposure to the stresses associated with a, 24 hour skilled care environment that delivers care and services primarily to disabled and cognitively impaired residents in an aging population.
  • Examples of these stresses include, but are not limited to: emergency health or safety response, weekend and holiday duty, unusual or impaired behavior by residents, family reactions to having a loved one in a nursing home, death and dying, oversight of state surveyors, ombudsmen and federal officials, presence of consultants and attorneys, and variable involvement of medical staff. HIPAA is a law that must be followed by all healthcare personnel at every level. This position is a Mandated Reporter regarding the suspicion of elder abuse and may have access to

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent Prior experience working in a long-term care setting is a plus Ability to read, write, speak and understand English. Ability to relate positively, effectively and appropriately with residents, families, community members, volunteers and other center staff. Possess special interest in, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents and the elderly. Possess special interest n, and a positive attitude about, working with long-term care residents/patients and the elderly. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge and ability with an aptitude to learn company applications.

Requirements

Requires a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to perform physically demanding tasks including lifting up to 60 pounds. Candidates must possess strong communication skills and a positive attitude toward working with the elderly.
