The ACC 2008 Recommendations for Training in Adult Cardiovascular Medicine Core Cardiology Training (COCATS3) published January 22, 2008 are available at www.acc.org and was used as the foundation for the privileges in Cardiology. Additional information was obtained from the ACGME Program Requirements for Fellowship Education available at www.acgme.org and the Clinical Privilege White paper on Cardiology. Additional resources were used for procedures that cross specialty lines.

Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Internal Medicine residency program and completion of a fellowship in Cardiology accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada in the residency. The Credentials Committee; Physician Executive or Medical Affairs Committee; and the Board of Directors or the Board of Governors may consider training at residency or fellowship programs accredited by organizations other than the above.

Those applicants who are not board certified at the time of application but who have completed their fellowship training within the last five years shall be eligible, however must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of their fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement.
