The Surgical House Officer is responsible for the treatment and triage of surgical patients, performing consultations, and assisting in major invasive procedures. They also conduct daily hospital rounds, write orders, and facilitate patient referrals.

weekend days, weekend nights, weekday nights and any holiday which are all times for which BIDP makes available the SHO program for all subspecialties to use. Shift starts promptly at 7am and 7pm and ends accordingly. Face to Face sign out is mandatory without exception.
1. Clinical responsibility & triage
Adheres to the established Responsibility and Priority Hierarchy for treatment and triage of surgical patients (see Supplement 1).
Collaborates closely with the Attending Surgeon and surgical team to identify, assign, and assess patient care needs.
Provides assistance with:
Established inpatient consults
Rounding
Discharge planning
Patient management when patient volume and acuity allow.
When workload or acuity exceeds capacity, responsibilities defer back to the Responsibility and Priority Hierarchy and Attending Surgeon.
Maintains ultimate responsibility for identifying and triaging assigned patients.

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.

Candidates must be a Massachusetts licensed Physician Assistant, Nurse Practitioner, or Physician with experience in inpatient consults and surgical critical care. They should also have proficiency in various surgical procedures and meet organizational competency requirements.
