  • HourlyAbout Us: The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center is an independent, non-profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. In dozens of laboratories throughout the campus, researchers are working to unravel the mysteries of heart and kidney disease, cardiac complications in newborns, chronic lung disease, skin cancer, sickle cell disease, disorders of the autoimmune system, and much more. Many of these projects are collaborative in nature, involving experts from different areas of specialization. Our discoveries have prevented blindness in newborns, enabled premature infants with fragile lungs to breathe and allowed children with rare, often fatal diseases to grow up healthy and strong.

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or related field 1-3 years experience working in a laboratory performing basic laboratory procedures Experience in a clinical setting with experience with patients is a plus Knowledgeable of laboratory techniques in sterile tissue culture and in vitro cellular assays, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, ELISAs Ability to deal effectively with many people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and ages Ability to work independently or with little supervision Proficient in PC. .software applications including, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Outlook, etc. Ability to prioritize, organize and coordinate work Ability to work effectively with many people at various levels of the organization Excellent oral and written communication skills Ability to handle multiple tasks and appropriately prioritize Ability to clearly communicate with internal and external customers, including, but not limited to, patients, coworkers, management, physicians, and visitors Responsibilities: Laboratory maintenance including ordering and stocking supplies, preparing solutions, equipment monitoring,cleaning and maintenance. biohazard disposal. etc. Organizes and plans experiments under general Principal Investigator ( PI) supervision or someone designated by PI. Learns new laboratory techniques and apply them in carrying out new experiments under the supervision of PI or other senior lab members. Assists in data analysis and preparation of data for poster. oral or written presentations. Assists in working with human subjects enrolled in our IRB protocols. Stays up to date on institute and department policies and complies with policies and standards including, but not limited to, safety, infection prevention, quality management, environment, confidentiality, research ethics, good laboratory practice. good clinical practice in clinical trials and human subjects research, and patient care. Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for own professional practice in regard to: Attendance, punctuality and patient confidentiality. Professional behavior, communication and prompt responsiveness. Positive public relation image and working relationships. Obtaining necessary knowledge and skill needed to maintain competence and certifications. Completing all mandatory requirements, including annual safety programs and annual physical. Participates in the development and attainment of team, department and institute goals including: Attending and participating in division meetings. Volunteering or accepting assignments for projects.
