Performs assigned duties as a pharmacy tech with the primary intent of carrying out the commitment of ANSB, Inc., to the funding agency or agencies which support the Alamo Clinic Program as expressed in the goals, objectives and descriptions of methods and activities incorporated in funding documents. Implements Alamo clinic program plan and schedules as a pharmacy technician as described in Duties and Responsibilities.
Performs the technical processes entailed in dispensing prescriptions which include a basic review of the chart to determine appropriate patient and number of medications including quantities to be dispensed and whether dosages are within acceptable ranges based on patient age and weight, entry of data into computer accurately for proper prescription labels, assembling labels and appropriate dosage forms for review by the pharmacist prior to dispensing and identifies allergies to medications. Acts as a translator for Navajo patients with poor English skills. Translation includes information concerning drug therapy and disease conditions. After consulting with the Pharmacist, provides detailed patient education about drugs and medical conditions for patients who speak only Navajo. Manages third party billing including: setting up contracts with new insurance groups, correction any prescription related insurance errors to assure optimum reimbursement for our facility and our affiliated field clinics, resolution of problems or questions with Pharmacy Benefits Managers, communication of information regarding proper billing requirements to pharmacy staff, monitoring of reimbursement rates. Oversees management of pharmacy inventory. This includes: ensuring compliance with contract purchases, ensuring that the health center is obtaining pharmaceuticals at the best price available, and monitoring inventory system for accuracy. Places computerized orders with McKesson, checks in orders and adjust inventory Oversees management of the pharmacy INNOVATION robotics equipment. This includes daily maintenance (calibration and cleaning), refilling cassettes, ordering appropriate back-up stock, and maintaining PharmASSIST computer system. Participates in design and activities of the ongoing quality improvement program in the pharmacy department as required by the AAAHC which includes participation in P&T meetings, organized staff meeting and continuing education programs as conducted by the pharmacy and medical staff. Performs independent monthly inspections of all drugs storage areas within the pharmacy and health center facility including PharmASSIST robot to verify that adequate stocks are on hand, storage conditions meet specification and those drugs are within expiration dates including the correction of any problems found. Performs other duties as assigned. SPECIAL CONDITIONS: This is a child sensitive position subject by law to finger printing and a criminal/character background investigation. Pursuant to Resolution #R81029, the Employee is authorized by the Board to provide services to non-Indians living within or near the Alamo Navajo community boundaries on a fee-for-service or third party payment basis, provided that provision of such service does not interfere with the primary responsibility of the Alamo Navajo Health Center to meet its service obligations to Alamo Navajo community members and other eligible Indian beneficiaries. The Employee is deemed to be an employee of the Federal government while performing work under the Board’s Indian Self-Determination Agreement for purposes of Federal Tort Claims Act coverage. This status is not changed by the source of the funds used by the Board to pay the Employee’s salary and benefits unless the Employee receives additional compensation for performing covered services from anyone other than the Board. The Employee’s status for Federal Tort Claims Act purposes is also not affected by the Provision of services to non-IHS beneficiaries. The Board’s designated tort claim liaison with the Federal government is the Executive Director. Any tort claim (including any proceeding before an administrative agency or court) filed against the Employee or the Board that relates to performance under this Employment contract and the Board’s Indian Self-Determination Agreement, should be reported by the Employee immediately to the Executive Director so that notification can be made to the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services pursuant to 25 Code of Federal Regulations 900.188.
