About the role

The Medical Assistant provides clinical and administrative support to physicians, including gathering vital signs and preparing patients for exams. They coordinate follow-up care and maintain efficient front- and back-office operations to ensure high-quality patient delivery.

Work Shift Day (United States of America) Job Summary: The Medical Assistant (MA) provides support to physicians and other healthcare professionals by performing clinical and administrative tasks to ensure efficient patient care delivery. The MA works closely with patients, handling both front- and back-office functions in a fast-paced medical setting. The Medical Assistant functions under the direction of the Nurse Supervisor and/or Practice/Office Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include gathering and recording vital signs and other pertinent patient information for the visit, preparing patients for exams, assisting during treatments, coordinating tests and follow-up care, and recording treatment in the medical record. The MA recognizes patient's needs and symptoms in advance and responds appropriately, always keeping patient safety and the patient experience at the center of care delivery. The MA demonstrates competency and skills to serve patients of all ages. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Clinical Duties and Expectations

Provides relationship-based, patient centered care that is consistent with population specific characteristics (e.g., age, gender, disease, etc.) in a manner that adapts service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity.

Partners with the patient and significant others and/or family (as appropriate); keeping the patient at ease in the office through a collaborative and communicative approach to all care rendered.

Prepares patient for the visit with the physicians/APPs.

Prepares rooms and equipment, and aids physicians/APPs with treatment of patients.

Carries out orders generated from the office visit. Responds to patient requests generated outside of the office visit.

Maintains the safety needs of the patient at all times.

May be required to support front office operations by assisting with check-in, check-out, scheduling, and other non-clinical functions. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes

Provides patient care in accordance with recognized clinical practice guidelines and standards set forth by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or similar organizations.

Adheres to federal, state, and local laws and regulations as well as organizational and industry standards for clinical care.

Upholds all health care system/organizational and WMG policies and procedures and clinical competencies put forth by this job description. Teamwork and Collaboration

Collaborates with providers, nurses, and clinical staff to uphold continuity and consistency of care.

Participates in daily huddles, staff meetings, and medical group, or system workgroups/committees to represent the voice of the medical assistant.

Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration by practicing in an inclusive manner that promotes the recruitment and retention of all healthcare team members.

Participates in quality improvement initiatives to ensure alignment with best practices in medical assisting.

May be asked to serve as a preceptor to assist in the onboarding and/or training of new team members, trainees, or students. Professional Development and Initiative

Completes all initial and ongoing professional competency assessment, required mandatory education, and population specific education.

Demonstrates leadership by identifying areas for improvement in care delivery and suggesting innovative solutions.

Participates in workgroups, committees, and shared decision-making groups.

Regularly reflects on personal performance and areas of strength or weakness. Uses this insight to seek out relevant training or mentorship to continuously improve. Resources and Support

Supports efficient and effective use of material resources in a fiscally responsible manner. Minimizes waste of medical supplies and medications.

Alert supervisors or ordering staff when supplies are running low.

May be asked to provide staffing coverage for absences, vacation, and leave. Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all Wellstar Health System policies, standards of work, and code of conduct. Required Minimum Education: High School Diploma General or Other / Certificate Medical Assisting Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated. BLS - Basic Life Support or ARC-BLS - Amer Red Cross Basic Life Support or BLS-I - Basic Life Support - Instructor CMA - Cert Medical Assistant or NRCMA (NAHP) - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant or NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant or RMA - Registered Medical Assistant or CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Current certification from one of the following medical assisting credentialing bodies: AAMA (CMA), AMT (RMA), NHA (CCMA), NCCT (NCMA), NAHP (NRCMA) Upon Hire Required and Must have a current BLS card from the American Heart Association Upon Hire Required Required Minimum Experience: Experience in the physician practice setting Preferred and Minimum 1 year Experience in the area or specialty the candidate is applying for Preferred Required Minimum Skills: Must be able to work quickly and efficiently to assure patient comfort and satisfaction. High Ability to read, write and speak English language; basic computer skills required. High Must be organized and attentive to detail. Requirements

Candidates must have a high school diploma and a professional medical assisting certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, NCMA, or NRCMA). A current BLS certification from the American Heart Association and experience in a physician practice setting are required.
