Overview

Responsibilities

• Promotes professionalism and interacts with colleagues in a way that promotes a cooperative working environment.
• Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
• Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to the appropriate care provider.
• Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
• Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
• Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students, or interns, including lectures and bench techniques.
• Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
• Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, and performs proper, prompt specimen transport.
• Responsible for other duties as assigned.
• Engages in self-evaluation of practice and takes action to improve knowledge and skills.
• Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conducts improvement.
• Retains accountability for the quality of care given to the patient.
• Promotes service excellence and growth of the laboratory.

Qualifications

Job Requirements

Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical, or biological science. Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles. ASCP or equivalent preferred. Certification within a specific area, i.e., M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP), qualifies. Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory. BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.
