Position Summary

Advancing Opportunities, an affiliate of Apis Services, is seeking compassionate, reliable, and motivated individuals to join our team as Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). In this rewarding role, you will support adults with intellectual and physical disabilities in a residential setting, helping them develop independent living skills, build confidence, and actively participate in their communities.

As a DSP, you will serve as a mentor, advocate, and caregiver, providing person-centered support that promotes dignity, choice, independence, and overall well-being.

Essential responsibilities

Assist residents with daily living skills, including cooking, meal preparation, housekeeping, budgeting, shopping, and healthy lifestyle practices.

Provide personal care assistance and support with hygiene and wellness needs.

Assist individuals with medication and health-related supports in accordance with agency policies and training requirements.

Encourage the development of social skills, communication skills, and positive coping strategies.

Support residents in participating in community activities, recreational events, and social opportunities.

Mentor individuals in building independence, self-confidence, and meaningful relationships.

Foster a safe, structured, and supportive living environment.

Promote individual choice, self-advocacy, and personal growth.

Document services and report relevant information accurately and timely.

Work collaboratively with team members, families, and other support professionals to ensure quality care and service delivery.

Qualifications

  • Required qualifications
  • Must be at least 20 years of age.
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Ability to pass state and federal criminal background clearances.
  • Ability to successfully complete:
  • Pre-employment drug screening
  • Physical examination
  • PPD/Tuberculosis screening
  • Required orientation and pre-service training
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to provide hands-on assistance and support when needed.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working with individuals with disabilities, behavioral health, human services, caregiving, healthcare, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of person-centered supports and community-based services.
