About this unit Twenty-five operating rooms perform a vast variety of operative procedures/surgical specialties including Trauma and Open-Heart Surgery Programs.
The department provides elective and emergency surgery Monday - Sunday, 24 hours per day.
Rotating call, holiday, and weekend assignments.

Scope of work The Certified Surgical Assistant assists the surgeon in the performance of approved surgical procedures, and who works under the direct supervision of and by the request of the operating surgeon.
High school diploma Required Associate’s degree or equivalent Preferred. Required years of relevant experience in lieu of associate’s degree may be considered Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant Program Required Must receive certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant Certification (CSA) through the NCCSA, or Certified Surgical First Assistant Certification (CSFA) through the NBSTSA Upon Hire Required 2 years of relevant experience; Surgical assisting experience Preferred Certified (CST) – AST Association of Surgical Technologist Preferred Certified (CST) – NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Preferred Certified (CSFA) – NBSTSA National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting Upon Hire Required Or At least one Certification from preferred list: Certified (CSA) – NCCSA National Commission for the Certification of Surgical Assistants Upon Hire Required Certified (SA-C) – ABSA America Board Surgical Assistant Upon Hire Required AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) Upon Hire Required AHA ACLS Adv Cardiovascular Life Support Upon Hire Preferred
