At Saint Mary’s Hospital, the Medical Oncology/Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) provides compassionate, patient-centered care to individuals with cancer and other acute medical conditions in an inpatient setting. The RN plays a vital role in delivering specialized oncology treatments, managing complex medical-surgical needs, coordinating interdisciplinary care, and supporting patients and families throughout their hospitalization and recovery.
Provide comprehensive nursing care to oncology and medical-surgical patients with a variety of acute and chronic conditions. Perform patient assessments, monitor vital signs, recognize changes in clinical status, and communicate findings to the healthcare team. Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, and oncology treatments in accordance with established policies and procedures. Manage symptoms related to cancer treatment, chronic illness, and acute medical conditions while promoting patient comfort and safety. Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, rehabilitation specialists, and case managers to develop and implement individualized plans of care. Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, symptom management, and discharge instructions. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation while adhering to quality, safety, and infection prevention standards.
Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing. Current and valid Connecticut Registered Nurse (RN) license. Minimum of one year of acute care inpatient nursing experience. Current BLS/CPR certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). One or more years of Medical-Surgical and/or Oncology nursing experience in an acute inpatient setting. Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) chemotherapy certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
