CORE JOB SUMMARY The Cytogenetics Technologist 1 performs entry‑level cytogenetic and molecular cytogenetic laboratory testing under direct supervision. This role supports routine diagnostic testing, specimen preparation, and quality activities while developing technical proficiency and knowledge of laboratory procedures and regulatory standards.

Core job functions 1.

Performs routine cytogenetic testing under direct supervision in accordance with established procedures.

2.

Prepares and processes specimens, including basic cell culture, harvesting, slide preparation, and staining.

3.

Assists with microscopic analysis, data collection, and preliminary result documentation as directed.

4.

Accurately documents testing activities and results in laboratory information systems.

5.

Follows laboratory safety standards, quality control procedures, and regulatory requirements.

6.

Maintains clean and organized work areas and assists with routine equipment upkeep.

7.

Reports specimen issues, technical problems, or unexpected findings to senior staff.

8.

Maintains required documentation in accordance with laboratory policies.

9.

Assists with routine inventory monitoring and restocking of supplies.

10.

Participates in onboarding, training, and competency assessments.

11.

Attends staff meetings and required continuing education activities.

12.

Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required

Experience: No previous experience required

Certification and Licensing: Valid State of Florida Molecular Pathology Technologist license required

Teamwork

Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute to a team environment.
