  • Summary: Independently performs the functions of a registered nurse in direct patient care. Utilizes the nursing process in the delivery of developmentally appropriate care. Also works in collaboration with other health care professionals to provide a comprehensive plan of care to meet the patient/family needs.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive perioperative nursing care to pediatric and adult patients undergoing complex cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures.
  • Prepare and maintain the operating room by ensuring all surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are readily available, properly sterilized, and functioning effectively.
  • Uphold a sterile surgical environment while strictly adhering to infection prevention standards, patient safety protocols, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to support efficient surgical workflow and achieve optimal patient outcomes.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient care, surgical procedures, medications administered, implants utilized, and equipment used throughout the operative process. WORK EXPERIENCE
  • At least 1 year of Operating Room working experience is required --- Cardiology exp preferred EDUCATION
  • Four-year Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience BSN required
  • Licenses and certifications
  • Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas required
  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers as required by CP 1.20 Life Support Course Requirements required
  • PALS/NRP/ACLS (Department specific requirements - see addendum) required *PACES certification within 6 months of hire required

Requirements

Requires a BSN, a current Texas nursing license, and at least one year of job-related experience. Mandatory certifications include BLS, PALS/NRP/ACLS, and PACES certification within six months of hire.
