MUSC Community Physicians (MCP) is an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) that provides healthcare to patients within the rural health network throughout the state of South Carolina.

The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized patient-centered approach to patient care and achieve desired outcomes. Assists in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician. Job Description: What You’ll Do

As a Certified Medical Assistant, you’ll play an important role in creating an exceptional experience for every patient by:

✔ Welcoming and interviewing patients while gathering medical history.

✔ Measuring and documenting vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight.

✔ Preparing treatment rooms and assisting providers during patient examinations.

✔ Maintaining accurate patient documentation within the electronic medical record.

✔ Delivering compassionate, patient-centered care while ensuring comfort, privacy, and professionalism.

✔ Communicating effectively with patients, providers, and fellow team members.

✔ Maintaining annual competencies and supporting a safe, efficient clinical environment.

✔ Performing additional duties as assigned to support the success of the practice.

What We’re Looking For: Education & Experience

✔ High school diploma or equivalent required.

✔ Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program preferred.

✔ One year of patient care experience preferred.

Required Certifications

Candidates must hold one of the following certifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA)

Job Description

Additional Requirements: ✔ Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

(Infrequent) Ability to lift/lower objects 50 lbs. from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. (Infrequent) Ability to lift from 36" to overhead 25 lbs. (Infrequent) Ability to exert up to 50 lbs. of force. (Frequent) Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb. patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs. of force.

For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker.

20 lbs. of force are needed to push a 400 lb. patient in a wheelchair on carpet.

25 lbs. of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand.

Ability to maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. (Continuous) Ability to see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. (Continuous) Ability to match or discriminate between colors. (Continuous) Ability to determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. (Continuous) Good peripheral vision capabilities. (Continuous) Ability to maintain hearing acuity, with correction. (Continuous) Ability to perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. (Continuous) Ability to deal effectively with stressful situations. (Continuous) Ability to work rotating shifts. (Frequent) Ability to work overtime as required. (Frequent) Ability to work in a latex safe environment. (Continuous) Ability to maintain tactile sensory functions. (Continuous) *(Selected Positions) *Ability to maintain good olfactory sensory function. Requirements

Requires a high school diploma and a current BLS certification, along with a national CMA or CCMA certification. Completion of an accredited Medical Assisting program and one year of patient care experience are preferred.
