Position Summary

Better Mind is seeking a compassionate, experienced, and patient-focused Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) to join our growing behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis, medication management, and ongoing treatment for adult patients in an outpatient setting.

The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team to deliver high-quality, culturally competent behavioral healthcare while maintaining compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and mental health assessments.
  • Diagnose and treat psychiatric disorders in accordance with evidence-based clinical guidelines.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and provide ongoing medication management.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, within the APRN scope of practice.
  • Monitor patient progress and adjust treatment plans as clinically appropriate.
  • Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Collaborate with physicians, therapists, primary care providers, and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate patient care.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA, Florida Board of Nursing regulations, DEA requirements, and Best Medical Center policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and other clinical responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Required Active and unrestricted Florida APRN license with specialization in Psychiatric-Mental Health.
  • Current national certification as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC).
  • Active and unrestricted DEA registration, including authority to prescribe controlled substances.
  • Established collaborative protocol with a supervising psychiatrist, as required by Florida law.
  • Experience providing psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, medication management, and treatment planning in an outpatient setting.
  • Experience treating diverse patient populations, with a preference for adults and older adults.
  • Demonstrated linguistic and cultural competence when working with Hispanic/Latino communities.
  • Completion of the required 3-hour Florida Controlled Substance Prescribing Course.
  • Completion of the required 8-hour DEA Substance Use Disorder Training.
  • Clean disciplinary history with no sanctions or exclusions from Medicare, Medicaid, or other federal healthcare programs.
  • Preferred Two or more years of outpatient psychiatric practice.
  • Experience using electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and patient education skills.

Compensation

$145,000–$165,000 annually, commensurate with experience and expected patient volume (or negotiable contract rate)

Requirements

Requires an active Florida APRN license with PMHNP-BC certification and a valid DEA registration. Candidates must have experience in outpatient psychiatric care and completion of required Florida controlled substance training.
