Opportunity Overview

  • We have an immediate opening for an OR/PACU RN Per Diem (Float) to join our team at Reproductive Science Center of the San Francisco Bay Area. This position will float between our San Ramon, California and Menlo Park, California offices.
  • Schedule: Schedule hours varies as needed, rotating shifts; one weekend and two holidays per year
  • Compensation: $71 to $77 per hour (commensurate with experience)

In this role, the OR/PACU RN will

Perform comprehensive pre-operative nursing assessments and develops individualized patient care plans

Verify patient identity, informed consent, procedure, surgical site, allergies, laboratory results, and required documentation prior to surgery

Establish and maintain peripheral intravenous access and administers medications and IV fluids in accordance with physician orders and facility policy

Provide skilled perioperative nursing care while assisting physicians and anesthesia providers during surgical procedures

Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients receiving monitored anesthesia care (MAC), general anesthesia, and conscious sedation

Monitor patients throughout the perioperative and recovery phases, recognizing and responding appropriately to changes in patient condition

Perform ongoing pain assessments and provides interventions to promote patient comfort and safety

Deliver comprehensive discharge instructions and patient education to patients and support person(s)

Provides emotional support and reassurance to patients and families throughout the surgical experience

Collects, labels, documents, and transports specimens according to facility protocols

Accurately documents all patient assessments, interventions, medications, and outcomes within the electronic medical record

  • Float Per Diem Responsibilities
  • Maintain availability for at least four shifts per month
  • Include at least two weekend and/or holiday shifts in monthly availability
  • Maintain the competency and availability required to provide nursing care at both the San Ramon and Menlo Park Ambulatory Surgery Centers
  • Understand that work location assignments may not be finalized until two days before a scheduled shift based on operational needs
  • Demonstrate flexibility to support staffing shortages, sick calls, increased patient volumes, schedule changes, and other operational needs
  • Reside within a reasonable commuting distance of both San Ramon and Menlo Park
  • Receive a 10% premium above the OR/PACU RN full-time base wage rate based on the position’s additional scheduling and flexibility expectations
  • Maintain minimum availability requirements and meet scheduling expectations as a condition of employment
  • Receive mileage reimbursement in accordance with company policy
  • Understand that travel time is not compensated unless management directs travel from one facility to another during the same scheduled shift
  • Team Communication
  • Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, embryology staff, medical assistants, and other multidisciplinary team members to ensure safe and efficient patient care
  • Communicate patient status and changes in condition promptly to the appropriate providers
  • Participate in daily huddles, staff meetings, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory readiness activities
  • Serve as a preceptor and mentor to new staff members as assigned
  • Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and excellent customer service
  • Clinical and Technical Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate competency in circulating and recovering patients in an ambulatory surgery center environment
  • Complete accurate and timely electronic charting, including preoperative, intraoperative, PACU, and discharge documentation
  • Assist with surgery center opening and closing responsibilities
  • Maintain medication, supply, and equipment inventory and assist with stocking and restocking patient care areas
  • Ensure emergency equipment, medications, malignant hyperthermia supplies, and crash carts are inspected and maintained according to facility policies
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while adhering to OSHA, infection prevention, medication safety, and controlled substance regulations
  • Participate in quality assurance activities, audits, competency validations, and regulatory compliance initiatives
  • Cross-train and provide support in other clinical roles as assigned and within the RN scope of practice
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support patient care and surgery center operations

  • Maintain current nursing licensure and required certifications
  • Review current professional literature and evidence-based practice guidelines
  • Participate in required annual competencies and mandatory education

Qualifications

and Skills Include:

  • Active RN license
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • 2 to 3 years clinical experience in Operating/Procedure Room or PACU experience strongly preferred
  • Experience in reproductive medicine or women's health preferred
  • Must reside within a reasonable commuting distance of both the San Ramon and Menlo Park Ambulatory Surgery Centers.
  • Strong technical and clinical assessment skills
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate good judgment
  • Ability to communicate accurately and concisely

Requirements
