Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt DEPARTMENT: Tribal Health SUPERVISOR: RNII or Director of Nursing GRADE: NE13 $25.18 ($52,374.40) - $37.76 ($78,540.80)

Position Summary

Under direct supervision the Licensed Practical Nurse provides simple and complex care to all types of patients in accordance with the accepted standards of approved nursing care. Confers with the Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician on patient problems, any uncertainty in methods of procedure and all incidents that might affect patients, personnel, or visitors adversely. Duties & Responsibilities

· Performs patient screening and triage, obtains patient health history. · Assists in maintaining order and cleanliness, i.e. in laboratory, exam rooms, and central supply. · Administers medications and/or immunizations orally and by injection. · Guides and instructs patients in self-care activities i.e. personal hygiene, nutrition, family planning, and grooming needs. · Sets up and operates specialized equipment for care of patients (i.e., EKG, suction, inhalation therapy, spirometry, etc.). · Assists Physician/Clinical Nurse in the application of life saving techniques in emergency cases. · Applies dressings and bandages as directed, removes sutures; charts pertinent notes in accordance with standards; gives of a variety of irrigations under direction. · Collects and prepares lab specimens i.e. blood, urine, stool, sputum, etc. · Draws blood, performs procedures for laboratory tests and EKG’s, and makes referrals to other care providers as needed. · Provides Health screening and health education for groups and individuals as indicated and assists in organizing and implementation of immunization program. · Maintains inventory in laboratory and supply room and patient exam rooms. · Maintains professional knowledge and proficiency. · May be utilized in the absence of a Medical Assistant, or in a Telemedicine or Community Health role. · Assists immediate Supervisor in preparing for Clinic accreditation requirements (AAAHC, TJC). Performs other duties as required

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

· Current license to practice as a vocational or practical nurse in the State of Nevada and two years of qualifying experience defined as professional nursing, care work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home or other supervised medical, nursing or patient care facility; or equivalent level of education and experience with state licensure. · Preference will be given to Qualified Native Americans. Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications: · Knowledge of and ability to maintain accurate electronic health records. · Knowledge of human body anatomy and physiology, sterile techniques and procedures, and how to work with medical, surgical and psychiatric patients. · Knowledge of, and skill in, the performance of personal and nursing care procedures and techniques pertinent to the specialized area for which application is made. · Knowledge of modern principles, methods and procedures of nursing care, including medications, treatments, and patient hygiene and bedside care. · Knowledge of current medical terminology. · Knowledge of use and care of nursing equipment/supplies. · Knowledge of isolation, aseptic, sterile techniques, and infection protection. · Knowledge of a Tribal Community Clinical Para-professional nursing care according to designated instructions and nursing care plans. · Ability to administer prescribed medications and treatments. · Ability to take vital signs. · Ability to understand and follow technical written and oral instructions. · Ability to respond effectively to emergency situations. · Ability to learn to effectively operate specialized medical equipment. · Ability to work effectively with physicians, advanced practice nurses and other health professionals. · Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing. · Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels. · Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner, building respect and confidence. · Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines. · Skill in operating electronic health records, and programs in a Windows environment, Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint). Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk; occasionally is required to operate a motor vehicle; stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an office setting with a moderate noise level. The Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California requires a background check of each new hire for employment purposes. Therefore, all conditionally offered positions will be subject to the following: Negative alcohol and drug screen Meet requirements of Public Law 101-630 Obtain or possess a valid driver’s license for either the State of Nevada or California within 30 days Must be insurable under the Washoe Tribe’s driving policy
