We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and experienced Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our growing Pain Management team. The Nurse Practitioner will provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients experiencing acute and chronic pain conditions. Working collaboratively with physicians and an interdisciplinary team, the NP will develop individualized treatment plans that emphasize evidence-based, patient-centered care while promoting improved function and quality of life. The ideal candidate is clinically confident, possesses exceptional communication skills, and is committed to safe prescribing practices, regulatory compliance, and compassionate patient care.

  • Perform: Comprehensive Patient Assessment Conduct comprehensive medical, surgical, medication, and pain history assessments. Perform focused physical examinations related to musculoskeletal, neurological, and pain-related conditions. Evaluate psychosocial factors that may contribute to pain. Assess functional status, mobility, and quality of life. Screen patients for depression, anxiety, substance use disorders, and risk factors for opioid misuse using validated assessment tools. Document all findings thoroughly in the electronic medical record. Treatment Planning Develop individualized treatment plans utilizing evidence-based pain management practices. Order and interpret appropriate laboratory testing and diagnostic imaging. Collaborate with physicians regarding patient evaluation and complex treatment decisions. Prescribe medications within scope of practice while following state and federal prescribing regulations. Monitor for medication effectiveness, side effects, and potential drug interactions. Recommend non-pharmacologic therapies including physical therapy, behavioral health services, and complementary treatment options. Coordinate referrals to specialists as appropriate. Chronic Pain Management Provide ongoing evaluation and management of patients with chronic pain conditions. Monitor patient progress and modify treatment plans based on clinical response. Educate patients regarding medication safety, pain management strategies, lifestyle modifications, and self-management techniques. Discuss opioid risks, safe medication storage, and adherence to treatment agreements. Monitor for opioid misuse through appropriate clinical monitoring, including urine drug screening and Prescription Drug Monitoring Program (PDMP) review. Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate, timely, and complete medical documentation. Ensure compliance with HIPAA, CMS, payer, state, and federal regulations. Maintain detailed prescription records and controlled substance documentation. Assist with prior authorizations and insurance documentation to support treatment approvals. Patient Advocacy & Communication Build therapeutic relationships with patients experiencing chronic pain. Clearly communicate diagnoses, treatment recommendations, and follow-up plans. Provide compassionate emotional support and patient education. Coordinate appropriate follow-up visits to monitor patient outcomes. Emergency & Clinical Support Evaluate and manage acute pain exacerbations. Recognize and respond appropriately to medication-related emergencies and adverse reactions. Identify signs of opioid dependence, misuse, or overdose and coordinate appropriate interventions or referrals. Quality Improvement Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient outcome tracking. Stay current on evidence-based pain management guidelines and regulatory changes. Attend continuing education and professional development opportunities. Contribute to a collaborative, patient-centered clinical environment.

  • Bring: Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the state of KY Current DEA registration with authority to prescribe controlled substances National Board Certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP), Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP), or Adult Nurse Practitioner (ANP) Current BLS certification required; ACLS preferred Minimum of 2 years of Nurse Practitioner experience preferred Previous experience in Pain Management, Orthopedics, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Rheumatology, Primary Care, or related specialty preferred Experience managing chronic pain and controlled substance prescribing is highly desirable Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills Knowledge of evidence-based pain management therapies Understanding of opioid prescribing guidelines and risk mitigation strategies Excellent interpersonal and patient education skills Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and multidisciplinary teams Strong organizational and documentation skills Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered care
