About the role

Assist residents with activities of daily living, including bathing, mobility, and housekeeping, while fostering independence. Monitor and report changes in residents' physical and cognitive status to supervisors and ensure environmental safety.

Description The primary function of the RA/CNA is to assist residents of CSLC who are functionally, physically, and or socially impaired and may require extensive oversight. The Resident Assistant’s role is to assist residents with those activities of daily living that they are unable to perform without help, and do not require medical training to perform duty, while fostering at all times, residents’ independence and freedom of choice. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the philosophy of Charlesgate Senior Living Center.

Duties and Responsibilities

Activities of Daily Living Provides assistance for residents of CSLC with the following: Stand by Assist Bathing ( Ensure residents get in/out of shower, water at appropriate temperature) C.N.A (ONLY) able to provide limited assist where needed. Mobility devices (cane, walker,) includes monitoring of safe ambulation techniques

Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Provides assistance with the following

Telephone (assist with calls, phone repair, hearing and vision adaptive services Housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash, making bed, keeping closet organized, changing bed linens, and ensuring apartment is straightened up and safe Laundry Coordinate medical transportation needs Ensures resident participation in assisted living services such as meal times and medication passes Health Maintenance, Monitoring Tasks, and Additional Tasks Observes and reports changes in resident’s physical condition and cognitive/emotional status to supervisor. Conducts room checks and resident rounds Monitors for environmental safety hazards Reports incidents and accidents Reports resident and resident-related events Ensure that resident clothing collected for pest control services are cleaned, dried, stored & returned at the appropriate time. This will require close communication with Wellness Director and daytime management staff in order to ensure that appropriate time frames are adhered to. Also responsible to ensure that laundry storage area is maintained neatly and according to fire marshal standards. Performs special administrative projects as needed for nursing and administrative managers. . Dining Assists in a variety of tasks related to resident dining including vacuuming dining room, setting up and cleaning tables, serving meals etc.

Emergency Preparedness Responds to and acts appropriately in emergency or disaster situations

Other Duties Attend and participate in all staff meetings.

Monitor office and needed supplies when necessary.

Copies special paperwork and forms as required.

Prepares and maintains resident census record if required.

Participates in in-services, projects or committees as assigned.

Assists with Quality Improvement Program when indicated.

Requirements

Qualifications/Certifications Must have and maintain all certifications that may be necessary for employment. Must be able to plan and complete duties working independently and with minimal direction from supervisor. Must demonstrate an understanding of the values of the residents and of the aging process. COMMUNICATION SKILLS / English - Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. Able to use tactful and diplomatic communication techniques in potentially sensitive or emotionally charged situations. Ability to respond and follow up with common inquiries, complaints, problems and concerns from residents and families. Must be able to relate to residents in a courteous and diplomatic manner at all times. REASONING ABILITY Must be able to appropriately respond and intervene independently in both routine and emergency situations. CRIMINAL BACKGROUND Local, state national and federal Background Criminal Investigations (BCI checks) must validate no exclusions for work in a health care facility. Employee is responsible for paying the $35 national fingerprinting check.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, use hands or feet; and talk or listen.
  • The employee is required to stand and reach with hands and arms.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, stand, bend, squat, crawl, reach, and kneel using good body mechanics for sustained periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift/push up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposed to body fluids, infection, odors, and behavior of residents Exposed to chemicals/cleaning solutions.
  • Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability in order to cope with the physical, mental and emotional stress of the position
